The Golden Globes 2023 made a comeback after a year and has some interesting winners. Even though many films and shows that the viewers were rooting for did not win like Wednesday, Avatar 2, and Top Gun Maverick. There were some unexpected winners like Michelle Yeoh, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and Angela Bassett for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. This made her the first female to win a Golden Globe in the MCU.

Twitter folks laud Angela Bassett for her achievements and show their support

After the ceremony, Twitter was flooded with clips from the Golden Globe awards and the after-party. Angela Bassett won the Actress in supporting role beating out veterans like Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Dolly De Leon (Triangle of Sadness), and Carey Mulligan (She Said). The Twitter crowd lost it and could not congratulate her enough.

Angela Bassett played Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, who has to take charge of her kingdom and hold her people together as they mourn the loss of their king T’Challa, this role did not just win the hearts of the viewers but also won her awards.

Many pointed out that it took them 15 years to bring around this change!

Marvel movies do not get nominated for a lot of awards and the same is true for the actors who play Marvel characters. Even though many have received nominations previously women of the MCU have never won a Golden Globe for a Marvel movie.

Fans pointed out that only after fifteen years a woman finally won the Globe for a Marvel film and now her name is forever etched into history with golden letters.

Angela Bassett paid tribute to Chadwick Boseman in her speech

The death of Chadwick Boseman took everyone by surprise, people mourned him and Black Panther, his presence was like a light that shined upon all of us, one day he just took off into the afterlife. When Black Panther 2 was released everyone was scared and terrified to see the movie, everyone was wondering how will the creators fill a void so extensive and vast, but the film was respectful towards Boseman’s legacy.

When Bassett was declared the winner, she took her time to come to the stage and everyone stood up in her honor. Eyes were misty, and hearts heavy as Angela Bassett accepted the award. Her acceptance speech is also an ode to Boseman’s legacy, his absence is still mourned by Marvel fans and the community. Angela Bassett addressed him first in her speech saying,

“We embarked on this journey together with love. We mourned, we loved, we healed. And we will be surrounding each and every day by the light in the spirit of Chadwick Boseman.”

We just made history with this nomination and with this award. It belongs to all of you, all of us.”  It indeed is history and Angela Bassett has become a part of that history, legacy, and grandeur.

Black Panther Wakanda Forever will release on 1st February 2023 on Disney+.
