The upcoming season of The Witcher has a lot of hardcore fans very concerned. Ever since it was announced that Henry Cavill would be leaving the role of the beloved Geralt of Rivia, audiences have been skeptical about the future of the series. Although Liam Hemsworth is nowhere to blame for the criticism these decisions are getting, he has unfortunately become the face of them.

While the news was announced months ago, fans cannot help but get nostalgic whenever the show takes a new step towards its unwelcome change. The best example of this would be the recent first look of Hemsworth as the White Wolf. While fans are focused on the similarities, Netflix may have just made a grave mistake.

Toss A Coin To The New Witcher

The official social media accounts for Netflix’s The Witcher have released the first look at Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt of Rivia, and it is safe to assume that audiences have a lot to say. The actor looks impeccable as the White Wolf, adorning the signature hair, the empty yellow eyes, and a coldness that is exclusive to the witcher.

While many are focusing on how good the actor looks in the character’s skin, others cannot help but look back at the past. Many fans do not wish to move on from who was left behind, making comparisons to how Henry Cavill looked as the character.

While some mentioned how the actor looks exactly like the Man of Steel actor, others refuse to believe that anyone could play the character as well as Cavill could. Unfortunately, it seems almost impossible for Hemsworth to walk out of the shadow of Cavill’s legacy.

An Imitation Comes With a Price

When Netflix was filming the third season of The Witcher, they could have taken two approaches. They could have either made sure that Liam Hemsworth stands out in his own right as Geralt, or he could try his best to do exactly what Henry Cavill did. With the release of Hemsworth’s first look as the character, it is safe to say that the latter approach was taken.

While such a decision could certainly help fans be on their side, as can be seen in the conversations many are having, this road is also a slippery one. The choice to make the new Witcher as close to Cavill’s as possible will require a lot of dedication and attention to detail. The pressure this puts on Hemsworth’s performance in the upcoming season cannot be put into words.

To avoid the wrath of the audience, every single line of dialogue the actor says and the mannerisms of his White Wolf have to be exactly like those of Cavill’s. If even one action is out of place or different from what the Man of Steel actor would have done, lives will not be spared.
