The Rock Reportedly Forced WB to Delete His Post-Credits Scene From Shazam! That Would Have Originally Set-Up Black Adam

The Rock made his DCEU debut as Black Adam with the 2022 film. The anti-hero was earlier supposed to make his first appearance in the 2019 film Shazam! as the main antagonist. However, following Dwayne Johnson’s suggestions, the studio decided to produce a solo movie for Black Adam. The film re-introduced Henry Cavill as Superman, and now everyone is excited about the combat between Black Adam and Superman. However, according to comics, Shazam is the primary enemy of Black Adam.

Both the characters get their powers from wizards, and both have been entwined several times in comics. After all this, there is no direct mention of Shazam in Black Adam. The only time Teth Adam says Shazam is at the beginning of the film, as he turns into Black Adam. So what was the reason filmmakers completely ignored Shazam’s presence in the Black Adam?

The Rock Made A Lot of Changes in Shazam! and Black Adam

It is no news that The Rock went on to make several changes in Shazam! and Black Adam. From getting the anti-hero his own film to convincing the studio to cut off some scenes.

A recent report from The Wrap has suggested that the Jumanji star forced the studio to delete a scene from the 2019 Shazam!, which would have set up the character of Black Adam in DCEU. The scene, available on the web, features Billy Baston and his family on their thrones.

However, there is still an empty throne, and soon they realize there is one more like them somewhere. Peter Safran produced the 2019 film. An insider also claimed that Johnson was not a fan of Peter Safran producing Shazam!

The Red Notice star signed a contract with Warner Bros in 2014 to portray Black Adam in the 2019 film. Reports claim that after he found out that Peter Safran would produce the film, he convinced the studio to give Black Adam his own adaptation.

The Rock Says Black Adam VS Shazam Will Happen at Some Point

While promoting Black Adam, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was asked if fans would see Black Adam against his primary nemesis Shazam. The Rock said that they would, but it might not happen anytime soon.

The Fast and Furious star said that fans would see Shazam and Black Adam, as it will happen at some point in the extended universe. He mentioned that he does not have much input on it, and even if he did, he would not have been able to share it with everyone. 

He continues by saying, “If fans are looking forward to it, it will happen.” Zachary Levi is coming back as Shazam in his upcoming film, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, but till now, there are no signs that the anti-hero will have a special appearance in the upcoming film.

Will Shazam and Superman Team Up Against Black Adam?

The Rock may not have an idea about how Black Adam and Shazam would cross the path, but fans have started exploring what might lead them to come face-to-face. Fans have been discussing some theories that might lead Superman and Shazam to team up to fight Black Adam. 

Many believe that Black Adam would be the next supervillain of DCEU. And in order to take him down, Superman would either form a new Justice League team or team up with Shazam to defeat the ruler of Kahndaq.

According to fans’ theories, all this would take place following the events of Black Adam 2. The studio has not confirmed Black Adam 2 yet.

With James Gunn and Peter Safran taking the lead for DCEU, fans are expecting to see more credible DC projects in the future. The American filmmaker is currently working on the second season of Peacemaker

Black Adam is currently playing in theatres. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is set to release on March 17, 2023.
