The Rock Could Join James Gunn’s DCU in the Future

The Rock had laid out plans for his DC character following the release of Black Adam. He shared his plans for a possible sequel and spin-off following the characters introduced in the film. However, all his plans were halted after James Gunn took over as the new co-CEO and announced that he would be introducing a new DCU plan soon.

The Jungle Cruise star shared an update about the character’s future in the new DCU in December 2022. In his statement, the Red Notice star said that Black Adam is not in James Gunn’s first chapter of the new DCU. However, The Rock also mentioned that the studio and his production house, Seven Bucks Productions, will continue to explore ways to utilize Black Adam in the future.

“DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters.”

And considering his statement, speculations are being made that the studio could be working on plans to bring him back in the second or the upcoming chapters of DCU. However, there are still questions about how the new DCU would bring back The Rock as Black Adam.

Dwayne Johnson is already 50 years old, and James Gunn is working on a years-long plan for the new DCU. The first film under James Gunn’s new DCU is expected to release in 2025. So, if the studio has to bring Johnson back as Black Adam, they would have to do it in the next chapter of the new DCU.

James Gunn is Eager to Work With Dwayne Johnson

After The Rock’s announcement, the new co-CEO replied to his tweet saying that he is excited to collaborate with the Jumanji star’s production house. “Love @TheRock & I’m always excited to see what he & Seven Bucks do next. Can’t wait to collaborate soon,” Gunn said in his reply.

Although the Peacemaker director did not say anything clearly, the tweet seems to suggest that Seven Bucks would be involved with future DC projects. Seven Bucks has been involved in the production of the upcoming film, Shazam! Fury of Gods.

And considering James Gunn has not excluded the character from his future plans yet, he could continue to work with Johnson in one way or other. However, considering The Rock’s commitment to his DC character, he would not easily let go of an opportunity to portray Black Adam again.

Black Adam is available to stream on HBO Max.
