The Fast and Furious franchise has become one that is running on fumes due to its over-extended storylines and stretching the limit of believability with each installment. The first film was a simple one about racing, and the franchise soon turned into an espionage-esquire franchise, with parts 5-7 being its peak era.

However, with part 8, the audience got tired of the shtick as the franchise went overboard with its plotlines and action sequences. Parts 9 and 10 were the worst of the lot where the films essentially became parodies of themselves. With Fast 11 promised to be the last film, Vin Diesel has shared a concept art from it, but fans do not find the art particularly interesting or innovative.

Vin Diesel‘s Fast and Furious franchise soared high with its first 8 installments, with the fifth film giving the required boost that it needed. The franchise seemed unstoppable till its 8th film, with all 8 films becoming huge box office grossers and being the top IP for Universal. However, the franchise felt like it had run its course by the 9th and 10th films which also underperformed at the box office (via Box Office Mojo).

The upcoming 11th and most probably the final installment of the franchise will reportedly take the film back to its roots, focusing on one particular heist/mission rather than a globe-trotting adventure (via the InSneider). Diesel recently shared a concept art for the film on Instagram, but instead of creating excitement, fans are having a field day making fun of it.

On X, fans criticized the concept art for not showing anything new that they hadn’t seen before from the franchise (evoking a ‘been there done that’ feeling). Some even go on to claim that the whole concept art looks AI generated and not legit art from the upcoming film. Here are some of the reactions-

Fast 11 was originally slated for a release in 2025. However, the 2023 strikes caused it to be delayed and the film’s director Louis Leterrier has confirmed that the film would come out in 2026 (via Collider).

In addition to the backlash for this new concept art, the franchise is at an all-time low due to parts 9 and 10 being severely underwhelming. One hopes that the makers make the most out of the delay and craft a satisfying conclusion.

After Fast X underperformed at the box office, Universal is giving time to its final 11th installment and has delayed the film to 2026. However, pre-production on it seems to have started and director Louis Leterrier provided an update on when he starts work on the upcoming feature.

The director revealed that he will be filming a horror film this summer. After finishing the film in September, Leterrier stated that he would begin working and mapping out the film immediately that month. The Fast X director told Collider,

It’s happening. It’s happening very, very soon. I’m able to shoot a little horror movie this summer. I’m finishing my horror movie on September 15th, and I start Fast on September 16th.

The director further teased that he would bring the franchise ‘back home’ and he knows how the franchise will end. It remains to be seen whether Leterrier manages to bring back the glory days of the franchise and end it on a high note.
