Silent Hill is a franchise that needs little introduction. The series’ iconic games have introduced a benchmark to the horror genre of games as years have passed by. As it happens, the remake of Silent Hill 2 is on its way, and details about unlockable achievements have come up. A Reddit user has recently uncovered the upcoming game’s list of achievements (or trophies, on PlayStation) that can be unlocked, based on one of Bloober’s developer profiles on Steam.

The game is being built on Unreal Engine 5 thus giving the old game a modern, well-deserved remake. Silent Hill 2 will be exclusive to PlayStation 5 and PC, unlike the Resident Evil 4 remake.

From the source, it seems that the 12 achievements are:

  • Enter Hell
  • Meet a Prostitute
  • Learn nothing
  • Give up
  • Try again
  • Probed
  • Beat Yourself Up
  • Read a letter
  • Become a fugitive
  • Discover the truth
  • Green Hyper Spray
  • Find Alessa’s Toy

As usual, players can unlock these achievements by carefully playing through the different environments, completing challenges and playing the game in a certain way. However, the list doesn’t tell us what these achievements ask us to do, to be exact, but fans of the series can have some guesswork.

One of the comments on the post makes a positive speculation:

12 achievements actually feels like a good number for a horror game. Not too many to ruin the immersion, but enough to support alt endings, esoteric weirdness, maybe some hidden things, optional quests, etc. I hope they aren’t literally just progress achievements.

The original Silent Hill 2 took around 8 hours to complete. The remake has the potential to introduce some finer details, allowing players to explore and play better, stretching the progression a little. However, in that case, 12 trophies may still feel a little short for many players, but ideal for those who aren’t looking to be completionists.

Silent Hill 2 Remake – What Do We Know So Far?

Silent Hill 2 remake will explore familiar environments with a modern touch.

To start off, the game’s narrative will be a retelling of stories we’re familiar with from 2001. The game brings to light James Sunderland, a protagonist in search of his deceased wife after receiving a letter from her. This is a journey where players face the horrors of Silent Hill, including the infamous characters like Pyramid Head and Eddie Dombrowski. A nostalgic trip down memory lane might just bring back traumatic memories for many players.

Other than the graphical enhancements, one of the most exciting things to look forward to is how players will experience the game on a modern console. The PlayStation 5’s haptic feedback and 3D audio will do justice to Silent Hill’s backdrop of eerie surroundings, jumpscares and plot twists. Furthermore, the dev team has been consulting with Masahiro Ito and Akira Yamaoka, the original makes of the game. This ensures that the ‘generational gap’ isn’t a big one, and modern audiences enjoy the game as it’s meant to be experienced.

As expected, the game will feature the classic over-the-shoulder third-person gameplay we’ve all grown to love. Except, Unreal Engine 5’s tricks will certainly make the game feel more immersive and detailed, making exploration more realistic. At least, that’s our speculation from the reveal trailer.

The game is primarily being devolved by Bloober. The studio has honed its craft by developing horror games over the last many years, with releases like The Medium, Blair Witch and Layers of Fear. Giving the studio an IP that mastered psychological thriller in video games is nothing short of ideal. Bloober will undoubtedly do a terrific job with Silent Hill 2 and it will be a game that both experienced and newer players can enjoy.
