Kristen Stewart has a long dating history. She dated her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson for a few years, along with some other film and fashion moguls, including Michael Angarano and Stella Maxwell.
And now, Kristen Stewart and Dylan Meyer’s relationship is making headlines. Stewart has been in a relationship with screenwriter Dylan Meyer since August 2019 and confirmed in November 2021 that they were engaged.
But remember when Stewart was publicly exposed for having an affair with a married director? Over this news, people went crazy, and the actress faced a backlash that almost destroyed her career.
Kristen Stewart Faced Backlash for Rupert Sanders Scandal in 2012
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson started dating in 2009 when they began shooting for their movie Twilight. But their romance ended in 2013 after Stewart was caught cheating on Pattinson with director Rupert Sanders in 2012.
In 2012, Us Weekly published photos of Stewart and the father of two getting close after their movie Snow White and the Huntsman was released (in which Stewart played the titular role of Snow White).
She faced strong backlash because she was in a relationship with her Twilight costar. But later, the actress publically apologized to Pattinson, saying that it “jeopardized the most important thing in her life” (as reported by People):
“I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.”
The scandal became so well known in the industry that even Donald Trump (a reality television star before he was president) shared thoughts on their relationship.
“Robert Pattinson should not take back Kristen Stewart,” Trump wrote in a tweet posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Oct. 17, 2012.
“She cheated on him like a dog & will do it again—just watch.” Besides this, she faced a lot of backlash from fans, which also impacted her acting career.
Kristen Stewart Explains Absence From Snow White and the Huntsman Sequel Amid Scandal
Undoubtedly, Kristen Stewart’s cheating scandal affected her career. That is a reason she missed out on the sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman,” titled The Huntsman: Winter’s War (released in 2016).
She believed the cheating scandal with the first film’s director, Rupert Sanders, was likely why she wasn’t asked for the sequel. The Hollywood actress whined the same on The Howard Stern Show (reported by The Independent):
“We lived in a different time then. You know what I mean? I feel like the s**t-shaming that went down was so absurd.”
“And they should’ve put me in that movie! It would’ve been better. Not to be a d**k, but … they didn’t put me in that movie because I went through such a highly publicized scandal, and so they were, like, scared of touching that.”
But the real reason was that her role as Snow White was already written out of the sequel —The Huntsman: Winter’s War, and the film instead focused on Chris Hemsworth’s Huntsman character.
