The record is her follow-up to 2022’s Midnights and has reportedly already broken the record of the number of pre-saves before its release on Spotify. The new album reportedly continues Swift’s pattern of talking about her ex-romantic interests through her songs. While she is in a relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce at the moment, the former boyfriend who has become the subject of the song The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived in the new album is reportedly Matty Healy, the frontman of the band The 1975.

Pop star Taylor Swift seems to be at the peak of her career as she broke several records last year after she filmed and released her concert film The Eras Tour. The tour itself reportedly broke several concert records and her unorthodox release strategy for the film has been considered to be revolutionary (via Variety).
The singer released her latest album The Tortured Poets Department on April 19 and reportedly followed the tradition of talking about her former romantic interests in her songs. The singer has previously spoken about her alleged boyfriends in songs such as All Too Well, Forever and Always, and Out of the Woods among others.
The actress is currently dating NFL star Travis Kelce but her latest album seems to have a song that is dedicated to her former boyfriend Matty Healy. The song, titled The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, has been widely speculated to be about Healy and Swift’s short-lived romance (via Elle).
The song contained lyrics which has been widely speculated to have been a reference to Healy, including the title about the man’s short height, which the singer himself has mentioned multiple times. The following lyrics seem to be pointing at Healy,
“Gazing at me, starry-eyed/In your Jehovah’s Witness suit…And I don’t even want you back/I just want to know if rusting my sparkling summer was the goal.”
The first line reportedly refers to Healy’s costume while he plays for his band, while the second is reportedly the short time they were together. The couple’s fling reportedly barely lasted a summer and the singer was previously speculated to not have written any songs about the frontman (via Page Six).
How Long Did Matty Healy And Taylor Swift Date?
Anytime a song or an album by Taylor Swift drops, fans are quick to decode hidden meanings behind the lyrics and references to all the events that have occurred in the pop star’s life. Many times, these details include her feelings about her recent romantic partner or any of the romances that she has had over the years.
Her latest album The Tortured Poets Department seems to have a song that has been speculated to have been about Matty Healy. According to Elle, the duo began dating in May 2023 after Swift’s breakup with her boyfriend of six years Joe Alwyn. The couple had apparently attended each others’ concerts multiple times before.
According to the British tabloid The Sun, Swift and Healy were speculated to go public about their relationship at a concert in Tennessee. Though that never happened, a source for The Sun described their relationship,
“She and Matty are madly in love. It’s super-early days, but it feels right…They are both massively proud and excited about this relationship and, unlike Taylor’s last one — which was very much kept out of the spotlight, deliberately — she wants to ‘own’ this romance, and not hide it away.”
However, the relationship seemed to be short-lived as, by June, it was reported that the couple had broken up. Page Six reported that a source close to the couple mentioned that it was just a ‘fun’ time for both of the singers and that there would be no songs on the next album about the courtship.
