The Star Wars: KOTOR Remake drama has seen more positive and negative news than any other game. The game was first revealed two years ago with a dramatic teaser, and it was announced that Saber Interactive is developing the game along with BioWare and Obsidian Entertainment.

In just the past month, the number of times the game has been reported to be shelved, dead, or under development would make it sound like a rare Bigfoot sighting that can’t be relied upon. Amidst all this, reliable leaker and gaming industry journalist Jason Schreier has shed some light on the drama and believes that the game is surely under development.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Is Well Under Development, According to Jason Schreier

KOTOR Remake is yet again reported to be under development.

The original Knights of the Old Republic came out back in 2003, developed by BioWare and Aspyr. Originally released for the Xbox, the game has a “Universal Acclaim” rating by both fans and critics on Metacritic. As a result, when Sony made the announcement about its renewed project a couple of years later with a rather intriguing teaser, the gaming community was hyped.

That hype has since mellowed down a lot with uncertainties surrounding the game, leading many to believe the game is shelved for good. Well-known gaming journalist and reliable leaker Jason Schreier has now reported on the status of the game in a ResetEra Forum while replying to a fan who asked if the remake is still alive.

Schreier mentioned that three frequently asked questions about the game include “Is it alive?“, “Will it ever actually come out?“, and “If it does ever come out, what will it actually look like?“. Responding to all three questions, Schreier answered that he did speak to a couple of unnamed sources from Saber Interactive, both of whom seem to have responded by saying “they’re still currently working on it.

For this reason, Schreier said that all the news about the game not being worked on “in any way” is incorrect.

Schreier also took to Reddit, responding to a couple of comments on a post where fans were discussing the game’s status based on his post on the ResetEra Forum. Schreier compared the game’s status to that of the young boy who was seen towards the very end of the 2017 movie, The Last Jedi, moving a broom with the force. Schreier went on to explain that the remake “Definitely exists, but will anything ever come of it or will everyone just move on like it never happened?“.

Another Redditor responded to that comment, saying the young boy being shown meant nothing and was “just there to show Skywalker’s sacrifice has inspired people across the galaxy.” To this, Schreier responded and compared it to Aspyr’s sacrifice of having inspired developers.

Back in July last year, Schreier reported that the remake was on hold following the departure of the game’s art director and design director after a brief demo was deemed highly disappointing. By this time, Saber Interactive had already begun working on the remake, which Schreier seems to have referenced in a way with his comment on the Reddit post about Aspyr’s sacrifice.

Fans Are Hopeful About KOTOR Remake After Schreier’s Update, Despite Sony Seemingly Backing Out

Conflicting reports divide fans who remain hopeful of getting an official update soon.
Conflicting reports divide fans, who remain hopeful of getting an official update soon.

A couple of months ago, it was noted that Sony had removed all references made to the Knights of the Old Republic Remake from its official X and YouTube accounts. The PlayStation 2021 Showcase playlist still exists but shows three videos being hidden when the playlist is opened.

Sony did comment on the deletion of the teaser with a feeble excuse, citing the expiration of the licensed music that was used in the teaser. While Schreier’s latest update brought back some hope among the fans, the general consensus remains that the gaming community, in general, remains either confused or divided over the recent conflicting reports surrounding the remake.

Jeff Grubb, another popular leaker, recently reported that the remake is not being worked upon, which started the ResetEra forum discussion in the first place. Schreier posted his own update in the same discussion, which led to fans being confused. The two conflicting reports divided Redditors about whom to trust as fans continue to stay hopeful that the game gets completed one way or another.

It might still be a while until fans get an official update from Saber Interactive, but until then, they should brace for more conflicting leaks and reports.
