Ryan Reynolds, known for portraying the Marvel character Deadpool, has revealed that his character’s suit serves as a form of armor for him. The 47-year-old actor is set to reprise his role in the highly anticipated threequel in the Deadpool film series alongside the X-Men star Hugh Jackman.
During a recent appearance on the Yours Mine Away Podcast, the 47-year-old actor shared insight into the protective nature of the Deadpool suit, as he shared that it has prevented him from sustaining serious injuries multiple times.
Ryan Reynolds Deadpool Suit Serves as a Form of Armor
During his recent appearance on the Yours Mine Away Podcast, Ryan Reynolds discussed various topics, including Wrexham AFC, his recent Emmy win, and the upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine. Discussing the potential parallels between the Deadpool costume and a football kit, the actor emphasized the durability of his superhero costume.
“Deadpool suit is really well armored,” he said as he revealed that the suit has saved him from getting seriously injured numerous times. “I could probably say, there’s 10 to 15 times that the suit has saved me from a serious hospital visit,” he shared.
Additionally, Ryan Reynold elaborated on the exceptional design and structure of the suit, describing it as a “feat of engineering.” He also highlighted that the suit has a thick armored layer, that prevents him from actually getting hurt during filming.
Reynolds has previously shared his experience regarding the difficulty of donning the suit, as “it’s tight.” He has revealed that the process of putting on the snug-fitting garment consumed nearly 45 minutes of his daily routine.
Ryan Reynolds Cried Upon Seeing His Deadpool Costume
Ryan Reynolds has previously shared that he was moved to tears when he first saw his Deadpool costume. In an interview with Comicbook.com, the actor shared that the journey to perfecting Deadpool’s iconic costume was fraught with challenges.
“Boy, we had to fight to get the suit to where it is now. There was a lot of work with very little time,” he shared. With a tight deadline looming, there was little room for error, and after weeks of tireless effort, the suit was finally complete.
“When we finally saw that suit, fully done, finished and completed…both Tim Miller and I wept.,” Reynolds shared before adding, “We walked in and we wept. Tears coming down our cheeks. It felt so good.” The actor is now set to reprise his role in the Deadpool threequel.
Ryan Reynolds has also shared that working on Deadpool & Wolverine has been one of the greatest experiences, especially as it involves some of his closest friends including Shawn Levy and Hugh Jackman. “It’s not every day you get to make a movie with where you spend the entire day just laughing and having the time of your life,” he said, reflecting on his time filming the Deadpool threequel.
