Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the recent title in Ubisoft’s long-running flagship Assassin’s Creed franchise, was launched last month. The game was heavily praised by fans and critics, who even coined it the best instalment in the franchise over the last few years. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is created by Ubisoft Bordeaux, and new reports suggest that the studio might be working on another entry in the popular franchise.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Dev Might Be Working on Another Game in the Franchise

Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed Mirage as the game that will focus on the roots of the franchise, and players hoped to see a title that would be modern but would also go back to the core gameplay that made AC so popular. However, players found the game too safe and did not try anything more than what was already seen, but it still impressed the masses.

Ubisoft Bordeaux is a smaller studio as compared to other Ubisoft studios that have worked on the previous titles. The response from gamers to its first AC game was amazing, and it just might have given the developer an opportunity to develop another entry in the franchise. Ubisoft Bordeaux has now hired Rik Godwin as the lead writer, who announced this via a post on X/Twitter and said that he is working on the Assassin’s Creed franchise. The tweet reads:

As it’s the end of my first official week on the job: I am ridiculously delighted to announce I am now Lead Writer at Ubisoft Bordeaux, working on the Assassin’s Creed franchise!

This suggests that the studio might be working on a new game in the franchise, and Rik Godwin will be helming the writing part. Rik Godwin has previously worked on several other titles, including Harmony: The Fall of Reverie, Under the Waves, and Atlas Fallen. Despite being inexperienced in the franchise, Ubisoft Bordeaux delivered a great game, and if the developer is indeed working on a new AC title, it could make a big name for itself.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage boosted players’ interest in the upcoming titles in the franchise. The game also became the biggest-ever launch from Ubisoft on Xbox Series X|S and PS5, and it even managed to outsell PS5 exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 last month in the UK.

One of the main attractions that impressed gamers was the classic approach and the fact that it didn’t try to experiment much, and although the game felt like it lacked something at times, it was still pretty successful.

According to a report earlier this year, Ubisoft has been working on eleven Assassin’s Creed titles, out of which two games, Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, have already been released. This leaves nine titles that are still in the works at different studios, and Ubisoft Bordeaux might be working on any of them. The studio could also be working on a DLC for Assassin’s Creed Mirage or something similar for any other titles.

As for the other Assassin’s Creed titles currently in development, Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade and Assassin’s Creed Codename Red are known to be in production. Ubisoft is finally taking the popular franchise to Japan with Assassin’s Creed Codename Red. Two games in the franchise, Codename Hexe and Codename Invictus, are said to be in pre-production.

11 Assassin's Creed titles are currently in development.

Three games in the franchise, codenamed Nebula, Raid, and Echoes, are in the conceptualization stage, and the first two will be multiplayer titles. There have also been reports that a sequel to the recently released Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR is also being planned, and an Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake is also rumored to be in development.

Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag is one of the most popular games in the franchise. It introduced Edward Kenway to the series and sold nearly 15 million copies around the world.

It can’t be said for certain if Ubisoft Bordeaux is working on a new title or just an expansion, but players can only hope that the developer delivers a great Assassin’s Creed experience as it did with Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The title was not the best game ever, but players have loved what they got, and Ubisoft Bordeaux can only go up from here, hopefully.
