Retiring from the wrestling world in 2020 after fighting his final match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36, The Undertaker majorly saddened his fans. However, recently the wrestler revealed how he briefly thought about making a comeback. Teasing fans with his comments, The Deadman mentioned one WWE legend who could have brought him out of retirement.
Revealing his one dream match against WWE legend Sting, The Undertaker claimed considering a return to the ring. But unfortunately, since Sting recently retired at AEW Revolution, The Deadman’s dream remained unfulfilled. Therefore teasing how he might have considered coming out of retirement to face The Icon, the wrestler seemingly excited his fans.
The Undertaker Speaks Candidly About His Comeback
The Undertaker sadly hung up his wrestling career back in 2020, after having his one final match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36. Disappointing his fans with his retirement, the wrestler thereafter remained out of the ring for good. However, during a recent Patreon exclusive Q&A, The Deadman remarked on how he once considered making a comeback.
“It’s still tough for me. I’m still coming to grips with it. I may or may not have said to my wife recently that I was going to make a comeback. Fortunately, I think I’ve talked myself out of that.”
Teasing his fans with his comments, the wrestler went candid about his career. Admitting how he discussed his comeback with his wife, Michelle McCool, The Undertaker quickly noted how he talked himself out of it. But while discussing his decision with his fans, the wrestler joked how one WWE legend could have brought him back.
“I mean if Sting hadn’t retired, maybe. He ruined the whole thing. I got new knees and he went and had to go and retire… Oh my gosh, we’re going to get so much heat for that.”
Joking about how a match against Sting might have made him consider a comeback, The Undertaker claimed that the WWE legend’s retirement ruined it all.
A Dream Match Against Sting Might Bring Back The Deadman
Undertaker vs. Sting is certainly one of the dream matches that alludes to modern wrestling fans. But unfortunately, it never happened as WWE never arranged for the legends to meet face-to-face inside the squared circle. Although they shared the WWE stage briefly in 2015, fate never brought them together for a match. And now that both the wrestlers have retired, it’s no longer possible to have that match.
Therefore, taking the benefit of the situation and teasing fans with the highly demanded match, The Undertaker noted how he might have considered his comeback, if only Sting hadn’t retired and WWE had arranged a match. But, that’s a distant dream, since The Icon recently decided to retire at AEW Revolution 2024.
Tickling his fans’ curiosity and raising their expectations with one condition that might have brought him back to the ring, The Undertaker swiftly took away the hope with a joke. Fans therefore lost their cool and went on social media to plead with WWE to bring back the duo for one dream match.
