Helldivers 2 is, without a doubt, one of the most played games out there. This game is certainly keeping a lot of PlayStation 5 and PC gamers very happy. The most prominent factor behind this popularity is, for sure, its incredible gameplay. People can team up with their friends and just go berserk on factions of enemies that dare to face them.

But there’s something that keeps on improving in this game with every passing day, and that is its lore. The developers have taken it upon themselves to add a bunch of new stuff to this game every now and then. And now, some fans suggest there’s a very dark secret behind one of the game’s leading enemy factions.

Helldivers 2 might have a much darker lore than anyone knew!

There are over 50 stratagems featured in Helldivers 2.

The lore behind games often gives them unexpected depth. Sometimes fans realize that a much-hated character is not as bad as they thought he or she was. Other times, an incredibly friendly character turns out to be much more malicious than they thought.

Similar is the case with Helldivers 2. It’s a very decent live-action third-person sci-fi co-op shooter that just keeps on rising in popularity with every passing day. Its lore is pretty straightforward: a galactic war is going on and everyone is fighting to win it, and players belong to one of three factions, with the other two being enemies.

Those two factions in Helldivers 2 are automatons and terminids. Automatons are a bunch of robots that come in all shapes and sizes; on the other hand, terminids are a bunch of insects. These insects are explainable, as they are a bunch of organic creatures, but where do they come from?

A bunch of fans on the internet have come up with a very interesting yet harrowing theory. This theory suggests that automatons are actually people who are unwittingly being controlled and made to fight against their fellow human beings.

On the other hand, some suggest that the larger automatons are actually the massive terminids being used to control those massive robots. Some even further these theories by suggesting that automatons are actually created by cyborgs as more advanced and powerful versions of themselves.

“It was deciphered before launch the Automaton are the ‘children’ of the cyborgs who simply wish to seek independence and would give up if we peacefully handed Cyberstan and left them alone destroy Liberty and Managed Democracy to spread their socialist ideals that would take away the freedom of all Super Earth Citizens. For Super Earth!”

This theory really gives this game much more depth than anyone had expected before. And this also makes automatons stand in a very different light than ever before.

The other question that remains now is: what about the Terminids? What is their end goal, and what do they want from Super Earth? Maybe Arrowhead Game Studios would clear this factor in the coming months through expansions and such?

This origin sounds awfully similar to Armored Core VI

Armored Core VI’s robots are powered in a similar manner.

The theory that suggests automatons might mostly be humans that are fighting their fellow humans without will is not very different from the lore of Armored Core VI. In that game, too, the brains of almost dead human beings are used to power a bunch of superpowered machines.

One thing that players should keep in mind is that a fan theory is not an official confirmation. Hence, they should wait for the developers to confirm this, or they can go around digging for clues to prove it themselves.
