With the release of Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, Zack Snyder has been giving quite a few interviews for the promotion of the film. Touching all aspects of it, from the behind-the-scenes conversations with Netflix to his intentions behind the project as a whole. Despite all that he is planning with this franchise, it would seem that there is one part of his life he is simply unable to outrun.
For many years, Snyder was a very important part of the DCEU. This has made it very hard to separate his current projects from his time with that franchise. During a recent interview, the filmmaker was talking about a memorable scene from the second part of the Rebel Moon series, where he revealed something interesting.
It would seem that a lengthy scene in the movie was inspired by something Snyder was going to do in the second part of the Justice League.
The Justice League’s Last Supper
Zack Snyder created the intricate SynderVerse; collecting iconic characters, telling their stories, and eventually making Justice League. The first film had a lot of ups and downs. The directors changed, The Justice League did not get good reviews and fan demands led to the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. While this movie’s performance wasn’t promising, there still was a plan for a sequel. That was until he was sidelined and had to leave the franchise.
Despite the movie not panning out, it would seem that the filmmaker had a vision for it; one that he was not able to let go of. During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder talked about how he had a very specific sequence planned for the second movie. He started by stating that the movie would have been set ten years after all that happened in the first film. All the characters would have gone about their lives, having conflicts of their own.
“There absolutely is a Last Supper in Justice League 2, and the scene had them telling the stories of how they got there, because Justice League 2 was going to open with us now 10 years in the future,” said Snyder.
They would not spend much time explaining what happened during this time, except in one scene. In perfect Last Supper fashion, right before their big battle, all the heroes would sit around, exchanging stories of what happened when they were gone, bonding with each other again.
Zack Snyder Gave a Nod to Justice League in Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver
It would seem that the ‘Last Supper’ sequence stood out to Zack Snyder from the script of Justice League 2. Even though he was unable to execute it in the film it was intended for, he decided to put it into at least one of his projects. He revealed in the interview that he put a similar sequence in his recently released film.
“And yes, [Rebel Moon — Part Two’s sequence] has a similar sort of structure to the Justice League 2 scene that we have.”
In Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver there is a 12-minute-long sequence that takes place before the battle of the rebels and Veldt villagers against Admiral Noble’s army. There is a point where everyone shares stories from their past, talking about the wars they have survived as a way to get to know each other. The scene acted as the calm before the bloody storm that was to come and stood out for audiences.
Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver is available for streaming on Netflix, and Justice League is available on Max.
