Bale is also known for his ability to transform physically whenever he wants. The actor shredded 40 pounds for his role as Trevor Reznik in 2004’s The Machinist, making him completely unrecognizable. Immediately after The Machinist, the actor gained 59 pounds for Batman Begins (2005).

In 2010, the actor did it again as he lost nearly 30 pounds to portray Dicky Eklund, a boxer struggling with drug addiction, in The Fighter (2010). In 2013, Bale gained over 40 pounds in order to portray Irving Rosenfeld in American Hustle (2013). The constant weight gain/loss obviously got very stressful for the star so now, he prefers to stay in his comfort zone.
