According to a report from Deadline, the new version of Prison Break would kick off a new chapter in the saga. While the specific details about the storyline and characters are still under wraps, it’s believed that the project won’t bring back the main characters from the main series, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell). This information has left the fans divided.

Not Everyone’s Happy With The Revival Of The Show

The new Prison Break project is a result of James’ agreement with 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios responsible for the creation of the original series. 20th Television will also serve as the studio for the new interpretation of the series. Executive producers of the new show will be James, Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring, along with executive producers of the original series, Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein, and Neal Moritz.

First released in 2005, the original Prison Break focused on the story of Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), a man who wants to prove his brother Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) innocent and save him from the death penalty. To do so, he comes up with an elaborate plan to break him out of the prison. As reported by Deadline, the new show will be a new chapter of the same story.

Prison Break

The show ran for four seasons on Fox and was concluded with a TV movie dubbed The Final Break, which came out 12 days after the Season 4 finale in 2009. Moreover, there was a 2015 limited series, which served as a sequel to Prison Break, featuring the original cast.

In the following years, Fox considered making another season, but the plan did not materialize. In 2019, Disney took over 21st Century Fox assets, including 20th Television, the studio behind Prison Break. As a result, Hulu, a Disney property, has become the obvious choice for the new chapter in the Prison Break world.

Speaking of Elgin James, he joined forces with Stephen Merchant to create The Outlaws, a series featuring Christopher Walken, available on Amazon Studios/BBC One. The comedy show will also be returning for a third season.

Moreover, in 2011, James helmed his first film, Little Birds, where he also wrote the script and composed the music. The movie made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival and received a National Board of Review Award.
