Developed by Capcom, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the sequel to the 2012 game Dragon’s Dogma. The game was directed by Hideaki Itsuno, and released on March 22, 2024, for Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The sequel is set in a continuous open world that is based on a parallel universe to that of its predecessor, and it is four times larger than the map in that game.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 comes with a major flaw

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games of 2024, and some might even call it the best role-playing game of the year. However, right from its launch, a lot of players have been having serious technical issues that have negatively impacted their gameplay experience.

After playing the entire game for the first time, several players reported experiencing severe performance problems on all three platforms, with frame rates drastically decreasing in cities. This is mostly because of the high number of NPCs present in the game which has been taxing CPU resources.

Many players have reported that frame rate drops in particular areas, typically falling between 30 and 40 frames per second. This has now become a huge issue among the players as it results in a rather inconsistent performance.

YouTuber @lukestephenslive addresses these issues in the gameplay and states that the game hasn’t been very well optimized yet. This can be mostly seen in cities where the NPCs tend fade away even when they are not that far away from the player’s character.

The YouTuber also adds,

There should be higher standards

This is because the game has its own set of performance issues on the PC, however, it gets worse when it is played on the PS5. Therefore, according to them, games shouldn’t turn out to be average, and the developers should focus on improving their standards while making these games.

IGN journalists experienced similar frame drop problems while playing the game. According to them, the game had a poor performance from the start, and if the CPU and RAM are not high-end, players will face issues with frame drops in the cities.

YouTuber @ScottyBlades also faced the issue of the frame rates dropping significantly in the game. The YouTuber also suggested players kill some of the NPCs in the game in the hope of minimizing the frame rate drops issue.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 to get a series of patch notes

These issues haven’t gone unnoticed and the developers have come out to address players’ concerns. The developers have stated that “In certain situations where numerous characters appear simultaneously, the CPU usage can be very high and may affect the frame rate”.

Moreover, the developers took to X on March 25 and stated that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be getting a series of patches intending to address all of the player’s concerns. Additionally, these fixes and quality-of-life improvements will be made available across all platforms.
