A video resurfaced from the time when Tom Cruise was filming a stunt for Mission: Impossible – Fallout and suffered a severe injury via Presidents of Physical Media. During the scene, Cruise was seen jumping from one building to another, when he failed to anticipate the distance and ended up banging his knee and feet against the wall.
I looked down – I crawled over the wall just to get past camera. Because I knew this was the take. Cruise stated.
Filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie recalled how Tom Cruise had broken his ankle during the on-set accident. However, considering that it was a crucial scene in the movie, the actor apparently refused to succumb to the pain and completed the stunt for the camera person to capture.
He knew he had broken his ankle. But the first thing he did was turn to the camera operators and say ‘did you get that?’. McQuarrie shared.
Although the accident seemed severe enough for any other actor to get sidelined for months, Cruise just showcased his commitment to the role. Therefore, while McQuarrie’s comments on the scene marked the actor’s unwavering commitment, it also proved why Cruise is an irreplaceable asset in Hollywood.
