Will Smith is one of the most influential actors in Hollywood, whose star power is so unbelievable that his presence helped boost the value of any project he is involved in. He is known to play each of his on-screen roles with the highest level of commitment and demonstrate them with nuanced perfection, making them seem authentic. The actor is making headlines for the upcoming sequel to his 2007 American post-apocalyptic action thriller film I Am Legend, in which he portrayed the role of U.S. Army virologist Robert Neville. The makers announced earlier this year that the sequel is in the early stages of production, starring him and Michael B. Jordan. In a previous interview, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman revealed that this project would explore new aspects and potentially follow the alternate ending “as opposed to the released ending in the original film.”

Will Smith has starred in dozens of commercially successful movies, including his 2007 post-apocalyptic action thriller I Am Legend. The film has an intriguing plot. It chronicles the story of Robert Neville ( Will Smith), a scientist and a survivor of a deadly, human-made plague that transforms the human species into bloodthirsty mutants called Darkseekers.

Neville, the only survivor in New York City, strolls alone in the city to find the cure for this epidemic while hiding from the Darkseekers. The project received an overwhelming response, with critics praising his performances, for he depicted his role remarkably.

Decades later, a sequel is finally in the works, with Smith reprising his role and another actor, Michael B. Jordan, joining the cast while his character is still under wraps. In a candid interview, the I Am Legend film screenwriter Akiva Goldsman opened up about the significant aspects of the upcoming sequel. He said that this film would follow the alternate ending to the original film.

“We trace back to the original Matheson book and the alternate ending as opposed to the released ending in the original film. What Matheson( Richard Matheson, the author of the 1954 novel of the same name that I Am Legend is based on) was talking about was that man’s time on the planet as the dominant species had come to an end. That’s a really interesting thing we’re going to get to explore. There will be a little more fidelity to the original text,” he told Deadline.

Akiva Goldsman’s revelation about the film appears intriguing, and fans can’t wait to see this highly anticipated sequel. Nevertheless, there are few details available about the project since it is still in its early stages of production.

Will Smith was initially unsure about starring in I Am Legend 2. Smith claimed he was not interested in working in the sequel but changed his mind only after hearing his co-star Michael B. Jordan’s idea.

“The idea came up. I can’t talk about it yet. But it’s a really, really cool concept, and he was a part of creating the idea,” the actor told ET. “So it was one of those ones I was gonna leave alone, and then I heard the idea. I was like, ‘That might work. I think we can do that.'”

Francis Lawrence-directed post-apocalyptic action thriller film boasts a stellar cast ensemble featuring Will Smith, Alice Braga, Charlie Tahan, Dash Mihok, Emma Thompson, Salli Richardson, and Willow Smith. It grossed $585 million at the global box office and received positive reviews from the audience and critics alike.
