Out of the six main Avengers, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor holds the record for having the most solo films to his name. Most recently, the fourth installment of the franchise, Thor: Love and Thunder, was a major disappointment to the fans as they blame Taika Waititi for reducing the God of Thunder into a joke. Fans called it a parody movie.

After the disappointing reception, there are questions about whether Chris Hemsworth will return to play the character or not. Of course, there’s a huge change we will our Stormbreaker-wielding Avenger in either or both of the upcoming Avengers movies. However, as far as Chris Hemsworth is concerned, he will return to play Thor if and only if his condition is met.

In an interview for a Spanish magazine, AccionCine, Chris Hemsworth was asked about the possibility of his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After a short laugh, Hemsworth stated that he had no idea about it at the moment. However, he did add that he is always open to the idea and if the story is highly exciting, he is ready to get on board. He added that he doesn’t want to keep doing the same thing to the point where it gets exhausting for both him and the viewers.

Translating the interview from Spanish, Hemsworth stated,

“I have no idea. I’ve said it before, it all depends on the type of story. It has to be something unique. What I don’t want is to do the same with the character until the end, until there is a feeling of exhaustion in the audience. But if there is excitement for it, I am always willing to return. If there is a new story, it has to be something very special. I’m sure there’s something exciting to tell, so we’ll have to wait and see. You have to wait to find it.”

Well, the writers will have to come up with something groundbreaking if they want the God of Thunder on their side. It’s time for them to put on their thinking hats!

Why Thor Needs a Solid Comeback

After Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers, Endgame, fans were super excited to see where Thor’s story is headed next. After all, these movies had some of the best Thor moments from the MCU. From his epic battle against Hela to chopping off Thanos’ head in one swift motion and savagely stating, “I went for the head,” Thor was an enemy the bad guys wouldn’t want to face.

Unfortunately, in Thor: Love and Thunder, the thunderous spark was missing. Fans are of the opinion that the film’s comedic and light-hearted tone took away parts of Thor’s heroic and powerful personality. While Taika Waititi’s approach worked in Ragnarok, Love and Thunder was just a bit too much for the audience.

Even Hemsworth agrees with this as he once stated on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast that his return would need a completely new tone than before.

Again, I don’t know if I’m even invited back. But if I was, I think it would have to be a drastically different version in tone, everything, just for my own sanity [laughs].Thor lost his mind that last one. He’s got to figure it out now.”

Of course, after Endgame, things have been difficult for the superhero universe. Apart from a few good projects, most of the recent ones have been a bit of a letdown. Since Thor is one of the few Avengers who made it to the new phase, we sure hope he returns stronger than ever!
