Bill Skarsgård’s upcoming film, The Crow, just released its trailer, and unfortunately, the response from the audience seems to lean more toward the negative than the positive. The film is a remake of a 1994 film of the same name, which happened to be one of the most beloved and iconic movies of all time.
The story is quite interesting, following Eric Draven and his fiance, who are brutally murdered. Mysteriously, a crow helps him return from the dead. However, he comes back a vengeful man and now will stop at nothing to get his revenge.
The story worked extremely well the first time around, recieving soaring reviews from critics and audiences alike, as well as an iconic and captivating protagonist. Unfortunately, the reboot has not been treated with the same sentiment. Even though the trailer has just been released, the backlash that the film is getting is quite concerning.
The Crow Trailer Gets Massive Backlash
There has been a very common theme that can be observed in media. Over the last few years, it seems as though the world has become less and lesser welcoming of reboots. Be it a show, movie, anime, or even book, they simply dislike the need to remake something rather than making something new and original.
With some claiming that Hollywood has gone soft and does not want to take risks anymore, it would seem as though any project that remakes something iconic, is ripped to shreds before it even hits the theaters.
Unfortunately, Bill Skarsgård’s The Crow was not different in this regard. On its own, the trailer of the film looks spectacular. The aesthetics of the film go perfectly in line with the tone of the story and characters. Additionally, the camera work and direction are spectacular, along with the action sequences and Skarsgård’s acting.
Although these are the sorts of things that make a film successful, it would seem as though all that anyone can talk about is the 1994 movie.
Audiences Are Not Kind To Reboots
In the comments of the trailer, many seemed to have become extremely upset at Hollywood for, yet again, trying to remake a film that did not need to be remade. Fans argued that if the original version of a film was perfect, there was no point in making another version of it, solely for the sake of making more money.
This is exactly what many pointed out, stating that the standard set by the Brandon Lee film sets the movie up for failure.
This unfortunatrly looks like it's gonna be ass like every other post Brandon Lee The Crow film.

I don't know how I feel about this one. I liked how with the Brandon Lee movie, we got a sense of mystery from the character that he truly felt like a mythical being. Despite being shot at constantly, this version still feels too vulnerable. And this remake seems more like a…

Looks like a bastardized version of the original masterpiece.

Looks very bad.. It seems that we will have a complete flashback in this version. One of the things the original version did right was showing the past only in flashes.
The atmosphere looks mid as well.

There’s just some movies you shouldn’t remake and The Crow is one of them.

Many had serious issues with the method of storytelling in this version of the film, as the trailer seemingly left no mystery with respect to the protagonist’s intentions.
They simply felt as though making a remake was a mockery of the classic film, disrespecting it and the legacy it left behind. Soley because of these reasons, many have already decided against watching the movie when it is released.
The Crow will be released in theaters on June 7th, 2024.
