Deadpool makes a reference to the Loki show as Alioth makes an appearance in the film. Reynolds seems to have also studied the shows in addition to the films to prepare for the gags of Deadpool & Wolverine. In an interview, he played a trick on Jackman with an unexpected Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D question while also making a surprising claim about it.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D was a show that has been running parallel to the MCU since 2013. Led by Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson after he is resurrected by Nick Fury, the show deals with the agents fighting terrorists as well as extraterrestrial threats. Popular MCU characters like Maria Hill, Nick Fury, and Lady Sif appear in cameos throughout the show’s various storylines.

While it mostly strayed away from the main MCU narrative, it still made references to the larger MCU, like the Battle of New York, the Avengers, the Sokovia Accords, etc. Thus, it has always made fans debate whether the show is properly MCU canon or not.

In a recent interview (via Vanity Fair) where Ryan Reynolds asked Hugh Jackman questions in a lie detector test, whether he has watched every MCU film. He jokingly also asked him to describe season 2 episode 5 of the show. When the Wolverine star enquired whether they were talking about only film canon, Reynolds simply replied “There’s no difference” as he sees no variation between it and other MCU projects.

Reynolds’ comments add to the discourse mentioned before. With all the multiverses and realities of the Marvel universe now combined under one banner, it is safe to say that the show is MCU canon. Fans can watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D on Disney+.

Ryan Reynolds‘ third Deadpool film went through many changes including its script, characters, and treatment. Hugh Jackman’s entry was the perfect boost that it needed and the talented actor conceived a buddy comedy with Deadpool and Wolverine. The title of the film was kept under wraps till the first teaser trailer that released in February this year.

In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live where the duo hosted the show, Reynolds revealed that the original title of the film was going to be Deadpool & Friend. However, it got leaked sometime before the release of the first trailer, so they had to request Disney to let them change the title to Deadpool & Wolverine. Reynolds said,

The movie was originally called Deadpool & Friend. On the eve of the Superbowl, it leaked cause of the sons of bi*ches on the internet. The title leaked…and they hated the title. We were not feeling so good about that anymore, and it went with the trailer that we were showing. It was kind of a perfect title for the first piece of materials we had out there.

So, Shawn Levy — director extraordinaire, friend to both of us, and dear friend, literally one of our best friends in the whole world — he and I had been sitting in the edit room for months at this point, and we called everybody at Disney and Marvel and said we have to change the title.

Deadpool & Wolverine has been loved by MCU fans and earned a record-breaking number in its opening weekend. The title change paid off as it perfectly captures what the film is about and does not misdirect audiences.

Fans can watch Deadpool & Wolverine in theatres.
