Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was not the head start the studio expected for its next phase. The film introduces Jonathan Majors as the next big bad for the Marvel superheroes. Although the Ant-Man threequel was highly review-bombed, Majors did not leave fans disappointed with his performance and became one of the best things about the film.
And Quantumania’s low critic score doesn’t seem to bother the new MCU star. The Devotion star talks about his first Marvel film and the negative reviews the film faced during his recent appearance on IndieWire’s Screen Talk podcast.
Jonathan Majors is Unbothered by Quantumania’s Reviews
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has not only become one of the lowest-rated MCU films but has also become the worst-rated film in the Ant-Man series. Unlike the first two films in the Ant-Man series, which hold with a certified fresh status on Rotten Tomatoes, the threequel is now the second worst-rated MCU film and holds a ‘Rotten status’ on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, the American actor believes that he did his best in his MCU debut. During his appearance on the Screen Talk podcast, Jonathan Majors talked about the negative reviews of the film and how it doesn’t change how he sees himself. Talking about critics, he said,
“It’s just people. They have an opinion. You always have an opinion. I’m no fool. I know these are people writing it. These aren’t my Yale professors or my drama teachers.”
He also shared that he makes sure that he gives his best in the film, however, the same cannot be followed for the movie as well. “Sometimes the movie is also on that level, and sometimes [it’s not],” he shared. The Lovecraft Country star also talked about the film’s critic score.
Jonathan Majors on the Film’s Critic Score
Earlier the screenwriter of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Jeff Loveness, said that he was surprised by the film’s reviews. “I was in a pretty low spot… Those were not good reviews,” he said. He shared that he was “despondent” and “sad” with threequel getting mostly negative reviews.
However, Jonathan Majors does not seem to care about the critic score as he is satisfied with the film’s performance at the box office. He said,
“I look at the aggregate and, ok, 47. But what does that 47 mean when you also got this amount of box office? What do these things mean? It’s information. I am in the know. I won’t play myself. “
Quantumania has scored more than $364 million at the worldwide box office after landing the largest opening day of 2023 with a $46 million box office collection. The film also became the best opening of the Ant-Man series, with $105 million in its opening weekend at the box office. Although the film has seen a constant fall in following weekends, Hollywood analysts have claimed that the studio does not need to panic due to the drop.
Quantumania’s producer, Stephen Broussard, has even said that the studio might come out with a fourth film in the Ant-Man franchise and that they are “already thinking about it.” The studio, however, has not said anything about another film focusing on the minuscule superhero.
