Johnson spoke about how her relationship with her co-stars turned out on set, especially because she is from a different generation. Meanwhile, Madame Web was panned by critics and is headed for box-office disappointment. Here is what Johnson stated about her equation with Sweeney, O’Connor, and Merced on the sets of Madame Web.

Dakota Johnson Talks Being Older Than Her Madame Web Co-stars

Madame Web features Dakota Johnson as Cassandra “Cassie” Webb who serves as a reluctant mentor figure to three teenage girls who will later go on to take on the mantle of Spider-Women. In the film, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, and Isabela Merced play the three teenagers.

During an appearance on the Late Night with Seth Meyers, Johnson spoke about her relationship with her younger co-stars. Meyers asked how Johnson felt about being a Millennial in the group of Gen-Z stars. Johnson stated the following about her relationship with her co-stars:

“I love them. And they annoy me. And I love them,”

Johnson added that she felt like the oldest person on set all the time and said that her annoyance with her co-stars was on a generational level. Johnson expressed that she felt annoyed by the Gen-Z because of the way they live life.

“I’m not that much older than them. But it just — I think it’s happening so fast now. These generations are like turning over.”

Johnson made the above statement explaining why she constantly felt old among her Gen-Z co-stars. In a separate interview with E! News, Johnson stated that she was excluded from a Gen-Z group chat made by her Madame Web co-stars, further demonstrating her disconnect with her castmates.

Madame Web Set to Become a Box-Office Disappointment

While Johnson was mostly joking when she called her Madame Web co-stars annoying, Sweeney, O’Connor, and Merced shared a great deal of admiration for the Fifty Shades actress and considered her like an elder sister.

Irrespective of the Millenial and Gen-Z dynamic between the cast members, Madame Web failed to impress critics and audiences. Directed by S. J. Clarkson, Madame Web was released in theaters on February 14, 2024. The film was reportedly made on a budget of $80 million. However, upon its release, the film received generally unfavorable reviews from critics.

The film was met with criticism for its story and performances. It was projected to gross $20–25 million in its opening week. The film debuted with a $6 million collection on its first day and has grossed a combined total of roughly $12.5 million in its first three days. Hence, the film has opened below expectations and is expected to become a box-office-bomb and could become one of the biggest flops of Johnson’s career.
