The original writers of the Scary Movie franchise, the Wayans brothers, revealed that working with Harvey Weinstein and his brother Bob Weinstein on Scary Movie film series projects was a horrible experience. In a brutally honest interview with Variety, they spoke about how the former Hollywood producer booted them out of their franchise after letting them work in the first two installments, Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2. Marlon Wayans told the outlet,

“[The Weinstein’s are] not the best or the kindest people to be in business with. They’re very much an evil regime, I guess. They do what they want to do how they do it — and it can be rude and quite disrespectful. We couldn’t come to terms on the deal. It’s like, ‘If you don’t want to pay for the jokes, have somebody else do it.’”

The American scriptwriter further recalls that Harvey Weinstein hired other writers for the Scary Movie 3, which resulted in him and his brothers firing from the franchise. He explained,

“We read on Christmas Eve that they were going with someone else for [‘Scary Movie 3’]. We probably could have sued or whatever, but part of us was like, ‘All you can do is allow us to create something new.’ I could write a book on that whole thing, honestly. They definitely still owe us money, lots of money. What they did was really bad business.”

The first two films of the Scary Movie franchise: Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2, written by the Wayans brothers, became commercially hit projects at the time of their release, and each film grossed millions of dollars at the global box office.
