There have been many Hollywood movies about Formula 1 and racing. However, almost every one of them had to use modified cars, given that the actors were not professionally trained drivers. But Brad Pitt‘s upcoming F1 is going to change this with the actor driving an actual Formula 1 racing car.

To add more to this movie, director Joseph Kosinski gave an interview to Deadline. In the chitchat, he was asked if his production is modifying cars for the Pitt-starrer. He added:

We worked with Mercedes and this was actually [team CEO, Co-Owner and Team Principal] Toto Wolff’s idea. They all complain that racing movies aren’t fast enough because usually when they build these cars, they’re movie cars. You know, they look right, but they aren’t real race cars.

He further talked about Toto Wolf and added that he suggested that the directors base the cars used in the movie on a Formula 2 model. To achieve this, Krasinski and his team worked closely with Mercedes and their designers and aerodynamic specialists to create a custom body that would closely resemble the latest editions of Formula 1 racing cars.

These cars were specially designed for the Brad Pitt-starrer and had 15 camera mounts. Further, it was also equipped with built-in recording machines, transmitters, and batteries.

During the same interview, producer Jerry Bruckheimer brought in Lewis Hamilton. He added that Hamilton had mentioned to them that no other movie has truly captured the essence of driving an F1 car. This feedback from the legendary F1 driver shaped the entire authentic experience of the upcoming movie.

Further, he’s been brought back from retirement to mentor the rookie prodigy Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) of the fictional racing team called APXGP.

Further, Academy Award winner Javier Bardem would be the leader of this fictional team. Other actors in the star-studded cast would be Samson Kayo, Kim Bodnia, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Sarah Niles. An Apple original movie, it dives deeper into the world of Formula 1 racing. The movie is directed by Top Gun: Maverick, famed Joseph Kosinski, and produced by the likes of Jerry Bruckheimer and Lewis Hamilton.
