Well, for now, at least, that’s what the reports are saying.

According to what industry insider Jeff Sneider shared via The InSneider, Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson just might be prepping to share the screen for Johnson’s next action-smashing biopic, The Smashing Machine.

To be directed by filmmaker Benny Safdie, this A24 film will notably share the story of the legendary former wrestler, mixed martial artist, two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion, and World Vale Tudo Champion: Mark Kerr.

In this movie that would mark the first film of Safdie’s solo filmmaking debut, Dwayne Johnson would be starring in the lead as Kerr, while his close friend since 2021’s Jungle Cruise, i.e. Blunt is still in the talks, and her role is yet to be known.

For those who may not know, The Smashing Machine was a project that had been on Johnson’s mind for almost half a decade now. Ever since 2019, when his Seven Bucks Productions company finally acquired the rights to Kerr’s story, Johnson wanted to give flight to the project.

In order to do this, he even aligned with Safdie on the Mark Kerr project. However, then came the pandemic, and everything was put on hold. Because of this long break and every other project that came in between, the film just felt like another opportunity swept down the rug.

But then came Emily Blunt in the picture.

As The People’s Champ shared with Variety, after realizing just how much her close friend wanted to jump on this movie, Blunt had one and only one response for Johnson: “You must make this movie.

Thus, the Brahma Bull pumped to work on the project once again, and the rest was history.

Now, the project is in the works all thanks to Emily Blunt‘s incredible companionship and insistence to him to do the film, and Dwayne Johnson has seemingly repaid her for the same by reportedly considering her to star in the film alongside him.
