Matt Damon spoke with Esquire and admitted he loves being married to his wife Luciana Barroso because she is not from the industry and is very far away from the seemingly observant eye of the public. She also does not have any social media platforms that people can snoop on.
“I got lucky. I fell in love with a civilian. Not an actress and not a famous actress at that. Because then the attention doesn’t double — it grows exponentially.”
They met in 2003 and have been inseparable, with The Bourne Identity actor luckily avoiding any controversies surrounding his relationship. They tied the knot in 2005 and now share four children. Damon manages to keep out of the prying eyes of the media by seemingly leading a mundane life.
“They can try to stake me out, but they’re always going to get the same story—middle-aged married guy with four kids. So as long as that narrative doesn’t change too much, there’s no appetite for it. If I’m not jumping up and down on a bar, or lighting something on fire, or cheating on my wife, there’s not really any story to tell.”
The only time Damon would make appearances in the news is when he has upcoming projects or press tours for movies he stars in. His recent work in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer saw him transform into one of the critical figures in the story, General Leslie Groves.

Matt Damon’s friend and former rival in the industry, Ben Affleck, seems trapped in the net of media coverage no matter what he does.
