The cast of the beloved crime drama Breaking Bad left audiences both shocked and delighted as they took the stage at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday night. The show, which ran from 2005 to 2013, won numerous awards throughout its run, including the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. As the cast gathered to present the same award to the actors of Succession, they decided to throw caution to the wind and rebel against the scripted rules in an act of pure defiance.
Breaking Bad Cast Reunited At the 2024 SAG Awards
Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, Bob Odenkirk, Dean Norris, Aaron Paul, RJ Mitte, Betsy Brandt, and Jonathan Banks took the stage at the 2024 SAG Awards to present the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, which was won by the comedy-drama television series Succession.
As they presented the award, the cast members were supposed to spell out each letter of the word ‘ensemble’ and describe what it represents. However, instead of adhering to the cheesy script, they opted to inject their own brand of humor and rebellion into the moment.
Bob Odenkirk, known for his role as Saul Goodman, took a bold stance going against the scripted sequence, saying, “No, no f***ing way I’m doing this cheesy thing where you say each letter of the word, I’m not doing it.” As Aaron Paul suggested following the teleprompter Dean Norris asserted, “Teleprompter my as**.”
RJ Mitte called the scripted act “so cheesy,” followed by Betsy Brandt, asking what the SAG would do if they didn’t follow the script. Jonathan Banks, fearless as his character in the series, summed up the sentiment, saying, “It’s an awards show for Chrissakes. They can’t fire us, so f*ck ’em.”

Bryan Cranston Said Its Time to Let Breaking Bad Franchise Go
In an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bryan Cranston, who portrayed the role of Walter White in the hit series, shared his thoughts on the future of the franchise. Emphasizing how everything must come to an end, the actor said,
“And, so, it’s okay to have a beginning, middle, and end, and then let it go. I’m proud of what we did.”
The 67-year-old actor expressed pride in the show’s accomplishments and suggested it was time to draw a line under it. Bryan Cranston has reprised his role as Walter White in the spin-off series Better Call Saul and the 2019 film El Camino and believes in honoring the natural progression of stories.
Series creator Vince Gilligan has also addressed speculation about a spin-off centered on Walter White’s son, Walt Jr., portrayed by RJ Mitte in the series. The show creator dismissed the idea, emphasizing that such a project would be “depressing as hell” and potentially misinterpret the show’s themes.
