Robert Downey Jr is one of the most loved actors in the Hollywood industry. He has not only risen to fame with the help of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but his roles including that of Sherlock Holmes and Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer have stolen the show with ease. It is his dedication to his roles that often attracts the fans towards him but there is no doubt that he is a man filled to the brim with talent.
Despite having so much skill, he is not perfect at everything. Having come from a rather disturbing family background, the actor had to go through a lot before he rose to fame. This, in turn, did not make him very proficient in languages. So much so that he was shocked to hear Gwyneth Paltrow speak French.
Robert Downey Jr Thought of Himself as an Animal for One Reason
While promoting Iron Man 3, Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow were at a conference (via VodkasterOfficiel) where the latter was seen conversing in French fluently. Downey was extremely shocked to see her speaking French and then addressed the audience regarding how he felt like an animal in front of her.
“First of all, I feel like an a**hole. I would have spoken French but I was raised by wolves. She went to all these nice schools and they spent all this goddamn money and now she’s all fancy and she comes out and you just love her. I am an animal I’m an ugly American alright. They don’t teach French in jail.”
He joked about how his own upbringing was much different where he could not go to different schools to learn languages outside of English. Then he mocked how Paltrow seemed all fancy as compared to him, referencing how he would have known how to speak French but that is not very common in jail.

The entire interview went viral because of how iconic Robert Downey Jr’s comments were. Fans created an uproar regarding how humourous and witty the actor is. Despite the comment in itself being rather bizarre and unconventional, it was taken more so in jest than anything else.
