When Gohan surpassed the other Saiyans during the Cell Games, Vegeta was shocked. But he never bore any hatred or jealousy towards him. Vegeta never had any kind of rivalry against Gohan since he was not someone who might have been a threat. Moreover, Vegeta always stood for the Saiyan race. Since Gohan was also a Saiyan, his initial reaction might have been compassion (except for the time when Gohan Oozaru was on a rampage against him).
When Vegeta started to live on Earth, Gohan was still a kid, and it might have been another reason why Vegeta secretly wanted the best out of a fellow Saiyan. When he surpassed everyone, he wanted him to always give his best and got disappointed when he could defeat someone, especially during his fight with Dabura and Majin Buu. But there was always a form of respect between them. He even suggested Gohan’s name for the Tournament of Power in Dragon Ball Super.
Gohan’s Latest Transformation Has Earned Him His Former Glory
Gohan had several powerups in the past, but none of them came closer to his ascended Saiyan transformation against Perfect Cell. Even Mystic Gohan had a lot of potential but could not do justice to his name. When Frieza came to Earth in Dragon Ball Super, Gohan was no help at all. He shifted his focus to studies and training, which made him weaker. But in Dragon Ball Super: Super Heroes film, he found his former glory.
On a mission to save his daughter, Pan, he underwent a Beast transformation, where his eyes turned red and his hair turned white. Even the late Toriyama sensei said it made him stronger than Goku. Apart from Gohan, his uncle also had an Ultra Ego transformation. Fans got to see Goku vs. Vegeta, but if the fan theory is correct, fans might never get to see Beast Transformation vs. Ultra Ego.
