Ever since X-Men ’97 was revived by Marvel Studios, the superhero landscape has entered into a pseudo-nostalgic era, where audiences have begun to reminisce about the good old days, when animated series were the go-to format for good superhero fiction. Almost immediately, there was a demand to bring back other animated series, not just from Marvel, but other studios that had previously produced great superhero content like Batman Beyond.

Among calls to bring back superhero animated shows, there seems to be a Batman: The Animated Series sequel in development with Warner Brothers, which has increased the possibility of a Batman Beyond revival. The casting and voice director of the show, Andrea Romano, might just have told fans how they could get it if they wished for it enough.

Andrea Romano, the voice and casting director for Batman Beyond, told IndieWire the exact thing that fans need to do if they desire a Batman Beyond revival. She said

“It will depend on the fans asking, and asking, and asking for it until [show owner] Warner Bros. would be foolish not to. So they have to begin a campaign of sorts and just let Warner Bros. know that that’s what they want.”

Batman Beyond was an original spin-off of Batman: The Animated Series, and The New Adventures of Batman, which also tied into the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited shows. the latter also had an episode dedicated to tying up Terry McGinnis’s story, which revealed that Bruce Wayne was actually Terry’s genetic father.

A revival of the show would have a lot of moving parts to keep in place, and since a fresh pitch for a film about the character (in the style of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) was tabled, it is possible that WB already has plans for the character in the works, which may or may not be the revival that a lot of fans want with the character.

Andrea Romano revealed how eager creators are for a Batman Beyond revival

Romano also talked about how eager creators are to revive Batman Beyond, given that it still stands as one of the best spins on the Batman mythos. She said:

“Because we would like to make it, it would be great fun — we’re all still around, we’re all still available, everybody’s still doing beautiful work. So yes please, and thank you.”

Similar to X-Men ’97, there could be a host of revivals on the horizon if studios decided to listen to fans. A Spider-Man: The Animated Series revival is already something fans are asking for, colloquially dubbing it ‘Spider-Man ’98’. A similar trend seems to sweeping DC’s fandom as Superman: The Animated Series heads for a remastered Blu-ray release.

As Batman: Caped Crusader still remains the closest we get to returning to a dedicated Batman animated series, the hopes for similar projects still remain bright, despite the DCU’s commitment to bring animation, video games, shows and films under one shared banner.

Given a strong enough pitch with an interesting premise, James Gunn might as well greenlight the project as an Elseworld property, something that will be the designation for Matt Reeves’s The Batman and the animated Harley Quinn show.
