Turns out one of the world’s deadliest and irrevocably famous secret agents is surprisingly enough, not as famous as he’d like to be. Daniel Craig, who rose to the heights of fame for playing James Bond in the popular film series, recently revealed how some islanders had failed to recognize him as the British Secret Service agent.

A week or so before Craig landed on the beautiful islands of the Caribbean, his dresser had announced himself to be James Bond to everyone there. But when the Skyfall star reached there, he found out that the inhabitants of the island couldn’t discern him as the actor who actually portrayed Bond. Given how the role more or less shaped his career in Hollywood, it was naturally shocking for the award-winning actor to see that people didn’t know him as James Bond.

Daniel Craig Wasn’t Recognized as James Bond When He Visited the Caribbean

Not too long ago, when the Casino Royale star appeared on The Graham Norton Show, the host had asked him if there was any place in the world where someone didn’t know who he was. To the latter’s astonishment though, there was one particular time when people didn’t recognize Daniel Craig as James Bond.

“On literally some island in the middle of the Caribbean in…just off Panama…and it’s a while ago, and my dresser on the movie had gone out to this island the week before. And he got there and he told everyone that he was James Bond. He’d got treated so well that it was a good day.”

As it happened, when Craig, 54, flew to the island “the following week,” nobody realized that he was the actual face of James Bond. After playing a certain role in five films over a span of more than a decade, one wouldn’t expect to go unnoticed like this. But oh well, the universe has an odd sense of humor.

“I went there the following week and all I remember is that we had this little plane and we landed on it…amazing place we went to. And we landed there and everybody came rushing there, ‘James Bond! James Bond!’ When they looked at me they went, ‘Ugh.'”

Norton joked how the people in question would be baffled if they would’ve watched Craig’s movies after that. That would’ve indeed been a hilarious plot twist for the islanders.

The Hunt for A New James Bond Continues

As renowned as Craig might be for depicting 007 on the screen, he announced his retirement from the role with No Time to Die (2021) being his last film as Bond. It was definitely a bittersweet moment for fans to watch him bid farewell to the character he had portrayed for about 15 years. However, the search for a new actor to fill in his shoes has been meticulous yet vigorous as the directors are devoted to choosing just the perfect star for the role. After all, it’s the next James Bond they’re looking for.

Directors are looking for the next best actor to replace Craig as James Bond

So far, there have been various renowned Hollywood actors including Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, Regé-Jean Page, and sundry others who have been in the game to replace the Spectre star. But while the search for the gem goes on, a few chosen seem to be running at the very front of the race; at present, the top runners seem to be Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Cavill, and a couple more new entries.

However, at the end of the day, only time will tell who will get crowned as the new 007.
