Nowadays many filmmakers are into making featured films of video games. But in the 90s, Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel already took this step to make a video game adaptation of the fan-favorite Mario. The film was heavily criticized by the critics as well as the audience. According to Leguizamo, he won’t be watching the new Chris Pratt-led film. As he also thinks like some people that an Italian actor should have been cast.

“No, I will not be watching Super Mario Bros. They could have included a Latin character, like I was groundbreaking, and then they stopped the groundbreaking. They messed up the inclusion, they dis-included! Just cast come Latin folk. We’re 20% of the population. The largest people of color group, and we’re underrepresented. Overrepresented for the worst kind of jobs, though.”

Even though there is a lot of criticism surrounding the film, it did well at the box office. Currently, the film is projecting a $195M at the 5 days opening box office record. It looks like the film will continue to earn good and will remain unaffected by the controversies surrounding it.

Chris Pratt has a lot on his plate, this year in terms of films. The Super Mario Bros has already made its debut in theaters and further next month his Guardians of the Galaxy movie will be released. When the new Mario film trailer dropped, many people came forward to express their issues with Chris Pratt’s accent in the film. As it didn’t sound Italian to them. The Marvel actor reveals the process of the audio testing of the new film

“You throw a bunch of different stuff at the wall, and then they come back and go, ‘Hey, listen to this. This is a compilation of stuff that you did that we think is close to where we want it to be. Let’s work in this area.’ At least for me, we did an audio reference pass at the beginning of every session where they were adding stuff and taking stuff away. They were determining how the voice would sound right up until the end.”

He added that he has tried a lot of different version accents of Mario and he was quite happy to go with the one the makers chose. In previous interviews, Pratt has also mentioned he’s a fan of Mario and he understood the criticism he was facing. But apart from all the backlash, the 43-year-old is grateful to be a part of this project.
