Arnold Schwarzenegger became the ballsiest tank driver in Austria

In the documentary based on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s life, the Terminator star opened up on the different aspects of his life over the past 75 years. Delving into the details, the actor revealed serving in the military in his early youth days, and how it paved the way for his bodybuilding career.

In the documentary, the actor shared that in the early days, everyone had to serve in the military in Austria. He revealed his real motive for joining the forces,

“I wanted to finish my service and then move on because you could not get your passport unless you have done your military service.”

Total Recall Star shared that he wanted to become a tank driver but was rejected as he was considered too tall for the job.

“They said it’s impossible. I’m too tall.”

But he recalled that his father knew some people in the military who helped him get the tank driver job. Schwarzenegger revealed,

“I became the ballsiest tank driver that they ever had.”

However, the actor’s military service was short-lived because he had bigger dreams.

Arnold Schwarzenegger left his training midway for bodybuilding

Once the action star was enrolled in the military services, he had to undergo the basic training process. Schwarzenegger recalled in the documentary, that in the middle of the training he was invited to a bodybuilding competition in Stuttgart, Germany, for Europe’s best-built man in the Junior Division.

The actor shared that he asked for permission to go to the competition,

“When I asked them ‘Can I go?’ They said no. I realized when you are in the middle of the basic training, you are not allowed to leave. I went anyway.”

However, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s bold and risky move turned out in his favor and he won the competition.

“I saw my career in front of me. I saw myself on Mr. Universe stage. I just had to replace Reg Park’s head and put my head on it, and stand there with the trophy, flexing my muscles. I saw thousands of people in the auditorium, in the theatre, screaming ‘Arnold! Arnold! Arnold!’”

“I saw the fantasy, it was not a dream. When you visualize something clearly, you believe you can 100% get there.”

The True Lies fame recalled that at the competition, he was offered the position of trainer at a gym managed by Albert Busek in Munich.

He shared that the position of bodybuilding trainer was very appealing for him, hence he took an early release from military service. The Commando actor said,

“I realized it was kind of the only solution to get me out of Austria and one step closer to America, the mecca of bodybuilding.”

The megastar won the Mr. Universe title at the young age of 20 and also won the Mr. Olympia title seven times. Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time and continues to inspire millions.
