Well, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune 2 certainly has one advantage over the upcoming MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine. It is something that the creators are indeed proud of and on the same hand, should have thought better!
The horrifying popcorn bucket shaped like a sandworm made news on the internet for the various memes and other uses that people thought of when they saw the buckets. Deadpool & Wolverine tried to follow suit but it wasn’t that effective!
Dune vs Deadpool & Wolverine: What Denis Villeneuve Thinks!
Before we begin this discussion, we would like to clarify that this is not a review of the special edition popcorn buckets of Dune and Deadpool & Wolverine. With one featuring a Sandworm and the other Wolverine’s mouth, both the buckets are different in their own regards.
But the idea of a popcorn bucket was used by Denis Villeneuve’s Dune 2 first and Deadpool & Wolverine made more of a spoof of the Sandworm bucket by using Wolverine’s mouth.
Despite the hilarity of the situation, the Deadpool & Wolverine bucket wasn’t that effective as much as the Dune 2 bucket. Even director Denis Villeneuve seemed to agree with the fact (via X).
They [Deadpool & Wolverine] tried their best to bring something horrific to the world, but the Dune bucket is unmatchable.
Well surely, it is a good (and yet a terrible) thing that the Sandworm bucket of Dune 2 beat Deadpool & Wolverine‘s popcorn bucket but at the same time, the competitions are also getting weirder day by day.
Villeneuve’s 2024 movie broke several records and became one of the most iconic films of all time thanks to the brilliant decision of casting Timothée Chalamet.
Denis Villeneuve Praises Timothée Chalamet For Dune 2
Popcorn buckets aside, let’s talk about the actual film that inspired Denis Villeneuve to create the bucket in the first place. Dune 2, starring Timothée Chalamet earned rave reviews and praises from around the world upon its release.
Chalamet received far more fame than he had anticipated and he joined the list of actors to be taken seriously. Dune 2 director Denis Villeneuve wasn’t able to help but be proud of how far the Call Me By Your Name actor had come.
In an interview with USA Today, Villeneuve talked and praised Chalamet and how he wasn’t able to see past The King actor as Paul Atreides!
It was like we had witnessed the birth of Beatlemania. It was crazy. Timothée has that kind of charismatic power. And I needed that for the audience to believe this young man will be able to raise and lead an army, and then lead a whole planet.
Well, it certainly worked as upon release, Dune 2 received a rating of 8.6/10 on IMDB and a whopping 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.
On the other hand, despite their best efforts, the popcorn bucket for Deadpool & Wolverine wasn’t as successful as the Sandworm bucket. The upcoming MCU film is slated for a release date of 26 July 2024 in theaters across the U.S.
