First, he got Hugh Jackman back as the iconic Wolverine, then he left fans dumbfounded by bringing Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. What’s next, instating Tom Cruise as Iron Man? No, but really, that’s not a joke.

Is Marvel Planning to Drop A Tom Cruise Bombshell?

The MCU cauldron is brewing with fresh rumors with a new post on X claiming Kevin Feige is reportedly eyeing a top-tier Hollywood action icon to fill the shoes of an Iron Man variant. And at this point, after all that’s been said and done, we don’t know what to believe.

Apparently, Tom Cruise – who almost played the playboy x genius Tony Stark in the stead of Robert Downey Jr. – is once again back on Marvel’s radar for playing the celebrated role.

While there hasn’t been an official word regarding the same yet, fans certainly seem thrilled with the prospect of seeing the Top Gun star accoutred in the iconic Iron Man armor.

But one thing’s for sure, if Feige somehow managed to land Cruise for the part, the studio is definitely going to be emptying more than a few pockets. Probably double what The Avengers star is getting for portraying the maniacal supervillain, as one user remarked, and in case you didn’t know, RDJ is getting paid A LOT.

For your reference, “A LOT” includes a private jet, a whole “trailer encampment,” and a security team at the back and call of the 59-year-old actor. Oh, and that’s minus his gargantuan payday for coming back to the MCU (via Variety).

Tom Cruise As Iron Man Could be the Next Marvel Sensation

Considering the excitement of the fandom, it would certainly be a home run for Marvel to bring the 62-year-old Oscar nominee into the superhero sphere, even if it’s as a variant of Iron Man.

The Russo brothers’ Avengers: Endgame – which was crowned as the second highest-grossing film ever made – was a smashing blockbuster and a Marvel powerhouse (via Box Office Mojo). It united some of the top brass from the realm of superheroes, after all.

That being said, the studio is yet to churn up a project more monumental than the 2019 supernova, albeit Deadpool & Wolverine does seem to be the dawn of a new era for Marvel Studios.

Nevertheless, an Iron Man x Doctor Doom face-off may just end up surpassing Endgame. The past butting heads with the present with Cruise going up against Downey Jr. Who wouldn’t pay for that?

Marvel is slated to release two tentpoles in the coming years – Avengers: Doomsday on May 1, 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.
