The Scooby-Doo franchise or series of movies and TV shows is probably one of the most well-known media franchises around, after all, you could ask an 80’s born person about it and they’ll definitely have seen any iteration of the franchise. And now once again, it’s getting renewed into another TV series based on one of its most popular characters.

That’s right, the quirky Velma Dinkley is getting her own TV series that is set to air this year. Although this isn’t exactly fresh news for fans of the franchise, the first look at Velma has drawn criticism from a lot of fans, and here’s why!

Fans Hate The Look Of The New Scooby-Doo Based TV Series, Velma

Developed by Charlie Grandy, Velma is one of the most anticipated TV series releases this year. The announcement of the series came around February of 2021, and it’s all just been hype and hype among Scooby-Doo fans.

Perhaps one of the most notable things about Velma is that Mindy Kaling, yes, the Mindy Kaling from The Office, will be all set to voice the famous character in the first season spanning ten episodes.

That’s cool and all, but when fans got to see the first look of the TV series, they were instantly put off. The animation style of Velma got universal hate from many fans for being similar to the style of the Netflix animated sitcom Big Mouth, which fans saw as ‘generic’.

New Scooby-Doo TV Series Velma Gets Mixed Reception

Fans are already not too fond of the new Scooby-Doo TV series Velma, and it’s not going to be long before the show gets canceled due to widespread hate for the TV series.

It also doesn’t really help that the reception to Velma from critics has been very mixed, despite how promising it looks. The Mindy Kaling-led animated series is currently standing at a 60% approval rating from the popular review website Rotten Tomatoes.

Even worse, another popular review website, Metacritic, sees the Charlie Grandy developed TV series stand at a score of 53 out of 100. However, AV Club’s Saloni Gajjar did give some hope to fans about Velma, praising the humor used, and the storytelling aspect of the new TV series.
