Known for his action films and hard-hitting Austrian accent, Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the most iconic action heroes of the 90s. He has acted in films such as The Terminator, Predator, True Lies, and many more. However, before shifting his attention to full-time acting, the Austrian Oak was one of the most prominent figures in the world of bodybuilding and has been working on his physique from a very young age.

The Total Recall actor’s hard work paid off, as he won Mr. Universe five times, and Mr Olympia seven times. While hard work and intense training regiment won Arnold Schwarzenegger trophies and awards, he opens up about how the usage of steroids has put a toll on his health and body. And he urges bodybuilders to avoid using hormonal supplements to give their physique a boost, for a shorter period of time.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Urges Bodybuilders To Avoid Using Steriods

During an exclusive cover story with Men’s Health, The Former Governor of California opens up about the use of steroids in the past, and how common it is among bodybuilders to use Dianabol for a sculpted physique. The actor told that he used to take “One hundred milligrams a week, and then three Dianabol a day, so that was 15 milligrams a day.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger shared that he used to take drugs only under a doctor’s supervision. However, he was absolutely flabbergasted to look at the usage of steroids among present-day bodybuilders, and how they are dying due to the overdoses of the performance-enhancement drugs.

“Bodybuilding always, always was considered a safe sport. But now it’s not. Now people are dying — they’re dying because of overdoses of drugs and they don’t know what the f— they’re doing. They’re listening to charlatans. If I want to get medical advice from a doctor, I go to UCLA or I go to the Cleveland Clinic.”

The End of Days actor knows that he is not the best messenger to encourage bodybuilders to avoid the use of steroids, but today’s bodybuilders and influencers would always look for the easy way to make money and end up making decisions that they will regret the rest of their lives.

“Don’t go there. Yes, we are at a time now where we always look for the easy way to make money, the fast way to get rich, the easy way to be an influencer. Anytime you abuse the body, you’re going to regret it. So I just want young people to know that I have seen people getting kidney transplants and suffering tremendously from it. I recognize the fact that, who am I to say this?”

While the former Mr. Olympia may not be the right man to urge bodybuilders to stop the usage of steroids, there is no other man who is as inspiring and impressive in Hollywood. While there may not be many people interested in his personal life, in the Netflix documentary, fans saw never-before-seen footage of the actor’s life and how he saw himself becoming Mr. Universe.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Defied All Odds To Become Mr. Universe

Arnold Schwarzenegger has had a tough childhood in Austria, he grew up in a house with an abusive father, and an emotionally distant mother. In his Netflix documentary, Arnold, the actor shared that everyone must serve a military period in their country, and they can not have a passport unless they clear this mandatory training period.

“In the middle of the basic training, I got this invitation to go to this competition in Stuttgart, Germany, Eupopean’s Best Build Man in the Junior Divison. When I asked them ‘Can I go’, they said no. I did not realize that when you’re in the middle of the basic training, you are not allowed to leave. I went anyway.”

After defying the military orders, he won the first prize in the competition where 28 other young guys participated in the competition. After returning from the competition, he spent a week in prison for defying his orders. However, he did not feel guilty, shame, or a dram of regret because his dream lay in front of him, to become the next Mr. Universe.

“I saw my career in front of me. I saw myself on that Mr. Universe stage…… And I saw thousands of people in the Auditorium, in the theatre screaming ‘Arnold, Arnold, Arnold’.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger did not have a dream but a vision, which he worked hard enough to make it a reality. Hence, he was not fazed at all despite having all odds against him.
