During Hiddleston’s 2015 appearance on The Graham Norton Show, he shared the couch alongside uber-talented, eminent personalities such as Robert De Niro, Anne Hathaway, and Sir Kenneth Branagh. The vast, fervent swarm of admirers that the Loki star has garnered was one of the topics that emerged during the conversation. The show host queried whether the “Hiddlestoners” had started appearing after Hiddleston’s debut as the iconic MCU supervillain/anti-hero. To this, the actor replied:

“That’s a whole other world… I don’t know about.”

Norton quipped, “You know all about the Hiddlestoners.” The High-Rise alum laughed and then professed his candid thoughts on his devoted swathe of supporters. Following was his statement:

“They’re very sweet, mostly benign. Yeah, there’s a few of them.”

Then came a follow-up assertion that caught Tom Hiddleston off guard, leaving him utterly speechless. Graham Norton asked whether these “Hiddlestoners” get “Hiddle-boners.” From everyone’s reactions, it was apparent that the 42-year-old MCU star wasn’t the only one taken aback. The rest of the guests looked highly amused.

Upon witnessing the collective stunned response, the show host affirmed, pointing to Hiddleston, “It all comes from him! Not me!” To defend such claims, the actor blurted out the following without realizing how it would sound in this context, “That’s something—I have not put that out into—” Graham Norton‘s reaction was priceless. Tom Hiddleston quickly affirmed, “Pardon the expression,” after he realized what he had just said.

The whole scenario had dumbfounded the Thor alum, who tried re-arranging his words and conveying his thoughts on his fans before stating, “I have found myself lost for words!” The English actor eventually reiterated what he had earlier said, confirming the Hiddlestoners’ (mostly) amiable and kind nature.

And that was the end of the Hiddle-boners topic. May we never have to hear that word ever again.

Tom Hiddleston Initially Auditioned For Chris Hemsworth’s Role In MCU

Furthering the conversation, the inquisitive Irish chat show host urged Tom Hiddleston to reveal whether or not he had initially tried out for the role of Thor. The actor confirmed that he had. Thor director Sir Kenneth Branagh, who cast Hiddleston as Loki in the 2011 premise, recalled the latter’s audition for both career-defining roles:

“It was a brilliant pitch for the part. He [Tom Hiddleston] had come in and wowed the room, as [both] Loki and Thor. We were … evolving scripts. That was always changing. But, fair play to Tom. He just went for it.”

Norton humorously wondered whether Chris Hemsworth‘s remarkable, long hair played a role in Branagh’s decision to cast him as Thor. The latter played into the joke by establishing that it had only been the hair. While these are anecdotes that the MCU ensemble can look back on lightheartedly, it remains a testament to how strongly these timeless characters are bound to the actors who play them.

We cannot picture any other talents that could’ve embodied Thor or Loki as well as Hemsworth and Hiddleston. Long-time MCU fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
