Adventure in Third-Person or First in Bethesda’s Upcoming Indiana Jones Game

Given that we are just days away from the release of the next instalment of the Indiana Jones movie series, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, it seems only apt that we have rumours of an update on the Indiana Jones game to coincide with this release.

It’s certainly been a long time coming, given that the the game was first revealed back in January 2021 with the release of the short 34 second teaser trailer. And whilst this didn’t give much away, just hearing that famous title song and seeing the famous fedora and bull whip, certainly made us sit up and take notice.

Indiana Jones Game: What we know so far…

We still haven't gotten a full trailer for the Indiana Jones game.

What do we know about the Indiana Jones Game nearly two and a half years since the Bethesda reveal? To be honest, not a lot. There’s been very little updates from Bethesda themselves since they posted back in 2021 here. And certainly fans who first experienced the excitement when viewing the trailer a couple of years back may have forgotten all about this title, given how little has been said about it.

In June 2021, Pete Hines, Bethesda’s senior vice president of global marketing and communications gave an interview at the GameSpot’s Play For All event where he stated the game was in the;

“very, very, very early stages of development”

So this statement makes us think we could be another couple of years before we have any news on a proposed release date.

The game itself is being developed by the award winning Studio MachineGames, working out Uppsala in Sweden. Known for their impressive work on Wolfenstein, the Indiana Jones Game looks to be in very good hands. But let us not forget it also has the power-house production presence of Todd Howard of Bethesda Game Studios. Not too shabby!

We do know that the Indiana Jones Game will be a stand-alone title and that it will focus on Indy at the height of his career. The game was originally meant to be developed for multi-platform release but given Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda, any chance of this title being released for PlayStation looks long gone.

Indiana Jones Game: So what’s new?

Fans are hoping that the Indiana Jones game will be better than the most recent movie.

Co-founder of the XboxEra.com and the XboxEra podcast @speshalnick, stated on episode 166 of the XboxEra Podcast that he had new info on the game. The Indiana Jones game would be utilising both first and third person aspects, however it won’t be that players will be able to select between these unlike the other upcoming Bethesda title, Starfield, (due to release in September). There will be specific sections of the game where the game will be first person and then other sections of the game where it will be third person but as it stands, nothing is finalised.

Given how little we know about the game, it goes without saying that there will be rumours about what to expect from the game itself. Some more substantiated than others. But given that @speshalnick broke the news about the Indiana Jones game being Xbox Exclusive long before Pete Hines confirmed this, we’re inclined to take note of what he’s saying.

Whilst we all prepare to see Harrison Ford in what will no doubt be his last outing as Indiana Jones, it may be that we have to wait just that little bit longer before we get to experience the whip-cracking adventures on a gaming platform.
