James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy is stirring up quite the buzz online, and reportedly they are close to casting their Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor. Expectedly, the majority of the buzz around the upcoming Superman film is centered around speculations about who will play the Man of Steel on the big screen after Henry Cavill.
But people are also wondering who will play the main antagonist, Lex Luthor, to the Kryptonian hero. After all, their rivalry is iconic and dates back decades. Apparently, Keanu Reeves’ recent co-star could get that coveted role, beating a famous Marvel actor who is also in the running.

But who will be the maniacal yet calculated Luthor? A new report by The Hollywood Reporter reveals that James Gunn has a shortlist of brothers, Alexander Skarsgard and Bill Skarsgard, for the role. The outlet wrote:
“Sources say there is also a shortlist for villain Lex Luthor (siblings Alexander and Bill Skarsgard have been mentioned as being on it, and it’s not clear whether Hoult, who was initially wanted for the part before deciding to try for Kent/Superman, would put himself in the running again.)”
But who is getting that part? Popular scooper @MyTimeToShineH hinted that Bill Skarsgard has got Luthor in the bag. Here’s what the tweet says:

The actor is coming off a high after the success of John Wick 4, where he played the villain Marquis. So he could be a great choice for the antagonist in the next Superman film. As for Nicholas Hoult, it’s surprising that he might have pulled himself out of the Lex Luthor race and instead tossed his hat in the Superman ring.
Maybe it’s because he already has experience playing a superhero. After all, he played Hank McCoy/ Beast in Fox’s X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix. Many DC fans think that he will make a great Lex, but not many are convinced that he will be the ideal Clark/Superman. The Flash’s disastrous box office performance has shown that it’s high time to reboot the DC franchise before all is lost. A lot is riding on James Gunn as well as the actors who will play Clark Kent/ Superman, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor. It will be interesting to see if Gunn can make a winner out of DC.
Superman: Legacy will be released on July 11, 2025.
