When Clint Eastwood Stood Around Throughout The Movie

In Eastwood’s defense, it is called true acting if a person just stands around while smoking a cigar while people love it. Portraying the role of Tommy Shelby if he was a Western cowboy, Clint Eastwood starred in the role of The Man With No Name in Sergio Leone’s The Dollar Trilogy.

Portraying the mysterious and ominous role, Eastwood wanted to continue this mysterious aura surrounding his character. He got into a disagreement because the director of the franchise, Sergio Leone wanted to talk about his backstory in his movie. Eastwood, being Eastwood, remarked in an interview that since Sergio Leone was Italian, he was used to exposition.

“I wanted to play it with an economy of dialogue and to build a whole feeling through attitude and movements. So I said to Sergio, ‘Let’s keep the mystery of the character and just allude to what happened in the past.’ Segio argued with me, though he did agree in a way, but it was just much harder for the Italian mentality to accept. They’re just used to so much more exposition and I was throwing that out.”

After the movie finished shooting, the producers looked at it and were furious at Clint Eastwood and demanded that he do something. As per the producers, the actor did nothing and just stood there with a cigar in his hand.

“They said, ‘Christ, this guy isn’t doing anything. He isn’t saying anything. He doesn’t even have a name! And that cigar is just sitting there burning.'”

Eastwood however, continued to maintain that mysterious persona and somehow allowed the film to be released. Well, fans loved Eastwood’s character of The Man With No Name following which, Clint Eastwood reprised the character three more times.
