Sanji Actor Taz Skylar Reflects on Positive Initial Impression of Character’s Lines in Partial Script Reading

In an interview (done by Pankhuri Bhutani), Sanji actor Taz Skylar discussed his initial impressions of his character when he first read the script.

When asked, “What were your first impressions of seeing all this as well as what were your first impressions of your own character.”

The actor gushed:

“That’s a good question. When I first read the script, it was only a portion of it since it wasn’t revealed who or what I was going to play. I just remember reading the extract and going like, ‘Oh, this is cool. This fits into my mouth and I know how to do this. I get what this person wants and how he operates and I believe I can do a good job with these words; this cadence and the way that this person speaks.’ It was only when I read the larger portion of the script that my initial impressions and thoughts about him (Sanji) were further confirmed.”

The actor mentioned that when he initially read the script, he only had a part of it and didn’t know who he would be playing. His first reaction was positive, feeling that the lines fit well and he understood how to portray the character. It was only after reading more of the script that his initial thoughts about the character, Sanji, were further confirmed.

Taz Skylar Reflects Warmly on Resonance with His Portrayal of Sanji

Later in the same interview, when questioned about the similarities Skylar feels with his character after portraying Sanji throughout the first installment, his response reflects a great deal of warmth and positivity.

“That’s a good question, there’s actually a lot. (LaughsIn terms of similarities, I’m very particular about the things that I’m focusing on. I want to do them very well and I don’t like it when people get in my way. What I like to take away from him is that he’s not petty. He sits on a higher plane of consciousness.”

The actor mentioned there are quite a few similarities. Specifically, he’s very focused on the things he’s working on and prefers to do them excellently, not liking interference. He appreciates how Sanji isn’t petty; instead, he sees Sanji as someone operating on a more elevated level of awareness.
