There have been many iterations of the famed hero over the past decades and each of them is distinguished in several aspects. Be it in terms of the acting, the iconic suit, or even the villains used in the story, Batman remains a fan-favorite comic book film.

Danny DeVito’s Favorite Batman Actor Is Michael Keaton

In an interview with Vanity Fair, actor Danny DeVito revealed his choice of Batman, and it’s no other than his former costar, Michael Keaton.

He’s my favorite, this is my favorite. This is Michael Keaton. He was the Batman when I was the Penguin.

DeVito portrayed the villain Penguin, aka Oswald Cobblepot, in 1992’s Batman Returns helmed by Tim Burton. When the actor was offered to look at photos of the other Batman actors, he claimed, “I don’t know what they look like because they’re behind the mask. This is the Batman for me,” he said, referring to Keaton.

In 2019, the actor said he has worked with Keaton in three movies already, and upon learning that they will collaborate again in Dumbo, he was ecstatic. He told The Cutaway with William Mullally:

I said, ‘Oh my god, this is really wonderful’ because I love Michael. Michael and I get along and it was like completing this circle that we now work together again and we have a good time together.

When asked what his favorite memory was with his costar from the past, DeVito admitted, “Well, we were separated back then from Batman and the Penguin so we didn’t go near each other.” Still, it was endearing to hear that he loves Keaton.

Danny DeVito’s Thoughts On Playing Penguin Again

Is DeVito willing to return as Penguin? Speaking with Forbes, the actor expressed interest in reprising his iconic villain role in the future.

I feel like it’s not out of the question that The Penguin will return someday, but this is all up to Tim, whether or not Tim wants to do this. I would say that could be in the cards because we ain’t dead yet.

He also remarked that they could continue what they had done in the past because he thinks it’s a brilliant film. The Matilda star is grateful for the opportunity to play such an impactful antagonist, so there’s no reason not to revisit it. “It was a really great moment in time for me,” he mused.

Now that Keaton made his return as Batman in 2023’s The Flash, perhaps DC Studios can find a way to bring him and DeVito together again on the screen with Burton at the helm.
