There are several theories surrounding One Piece. Eiichiro Oda has created his magnum opus in such a manner that it has no limitations for imagination. Most of the fan theories sound bizarre, but fans still believe them as if it could happen. For most parts, they cannot wait for Eiichiro Oda’s revelations and create their own theories.
Even though Oda’s imagination exceeds them, they are the happiest ones once they get to experience the revelations. There is a particular One Piece fan theory that explores the tale of Joyboy and how his whereabouts came to be known. It also explains Monkey D. Luffy’s true abilities and has enough ground to melt every One Piece fan’s mind.
Entire One Piece Is Based On Joyboy’s Imagination
The fan theory claims Joyboy to be a slave who lived during the Void Century. Even though there was nothing good about life with his entire world covering his darkness, there was one particular thing that he was quite fond of his comic strip. The protagonist of the comic strip was Sun God Nika. It was his treasure and his only source of joy. The story revolves around Sun God Nika, who helps him bring a smile to the faces of the oppressed and liberate them from their miseries.

Nika was a beacon of light in their darkness-filled life. Dr. Vegapunk once mentioned that Devil Fruits were the manifestation of people’s will. So, Joyboy, through mysterious processes got the powers of Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, since he was so fond of his treasure. It could be so that for that reason Gear 5 is white-colored, which matches the white strip of paper, with no signs of ink. It reminds the fans of the Joyboy’s comic strip.
In his Gear 5 transformation, Monkey D. Luffy exhibits cartoon physics as if he is an embodiment of a comic strip character. His imagination is his limit. Apart from that, there are other examples in One Piece where characters experience scenarios they read in a comic strip. After Sanji became O-Soba Mask using Germa’s technology, Trafalgar D. Water Law mentioned reading a comic strip based on The Warrior of the Sea: Sora, who had the same powers.
The Germa 66 were the antagonists. Moreover, it was Sanji’s dream to become an invisible man, which was fulfilled after using the Germa technology. It is the same as Joyboy wishing to become like Sun God Nika, the Warrior of Liberation.

When Gol D. Roger reached the last island, he named it Laughtale after laughing his lungs out at Joyboy’s treasure. In the video, he was seen to hold some kind of sheet, but the panel frame cut most of it. It might be a secret that Oda sensei wanted to keep for later. In Japanese, One Piece can be said in two ways. The first is ‘Wan Pisu,’ which is the direct translation of the English word.
The other one is “Hitotsu nagi no daihiho,” which has three meanings. One of them is something that connects people. So, One Piece could be something that connects people. Even Eiichiro Oda mentioned in an interview his magnum opus is supposed to create a bond between people. During the Paramount War, Dracule Mihawk mentioned Monkey D. Luffy possessed the most dangerous abilities of all.
He said that it was the ability to turn anyone into an ally. The fan theory claims that Oda sensei wants One Piece to become a treasure to the fans just like Joyboy treasured his comic strip. Moreover, it is not only Luffy but every character in the anime can become Joyboy. The One Piece fan theory is great and explores both Joyboy and Luffy’s background, but it is still a theory until Oda sensei does something magical as to confirm it in his magnum opus.
