Grant Gustin, who actually lived the iconic Barry Allen character in The Flash series, convinced fans that he should be the one starring in DCU’s upcoming movie, The Flash, instead of the controversial actor, Ezra Miller. But again, as fans continue to side-eye Miller’s present, Grant Gustin is also hit by fan criticism after he revealed his original plan for Barry Allen’s sendoff in the final run of the CW series, something he pushed for really hard!

Grant Gustin Wanted To Take Away Barry Allen As Farewell Gift

Grant Gustin, who almost made his fans cry last year with the bittersweet news of the final season of The Flash, angered fans in a recent Q&A session. Gustin revealed that his original plan for Barry Allen’s sendoff in the ninth season was to let the iconic character go out in a “blaze of glory”. The 33-year-old actor said:

“When I thought about The Flash ending, there was a theory out there that Barry would sacrifice himself to keep the Speed Force alive and become the lightning bolt that inevitably struck him [in The Flash’s pilot episode] and create this full circle moment, which I thought was really cool.”

The Glee actor further expressed that he wanted the beloved character to die a “hero’s death in a way”, and pushed the team hard for it. But then, the showrunner, Eric Wallace was opposed to the idea as he wanted a happy ending for Barry Allen and Iris Allen (Candice Patton).

He concluded, “And ultimately, I think that is, probably, looking back at this [season] and as fans revisit it, probably how they’re going to want it to end.” While Gustin takes “true honor” in the character, it’s his fans who were left offended.

Fans Wonder If Grant Gustin Spoilt The Thrill!

As the hype continues to grow after Ezra Miller‘s The Flash screening at CinemaCon, The Flash series fandom hasn’t died either. The ninth and final season of the long-running CW series, which acts as the conclusion of the Arrowverse, also comes as an emotional moment for Barry Allen fans, and the star himself.

But again, Grant Gustin’s revelation surely angered fans who wanted to see him in the upcoming Andrés Muschietti-directed movie. After Gustin opened up about his plan to have an honorable sendoff for Allen, fans flooded the internet with mixed views.
