Pierce Brosnan, the Irish actor known worldwide, portrayed the role of James Bond in Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and, Die Another Day. Finding fame and love for his role, the actor later departed from the franchise and Daniel Craig took over from him.
Craig was last seen portraying the role of Bond in the 2021 film No Time to Die, which marked his end as James Bond. Ever since, the producers behind the Bond franchise have been looking for an actor.
There were several rumors that actors like Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, Robert Pattinson, or, Tom Hardy were being considered. Although these rumors had little or no credible support, the rumor of Cillian Murphy portraying the role of James Bond, is something special. Pierce Brosnan said the following in an interview with BBC.

Murphy found further support in his co-star Clay Bunker and an unknown source, who claimed that the producers of the James Bond franchise were considering the actor.
The source’s name hasn’t been disclosed, but it does seem that Cillian Murphy as the next James Bond would indeed be an iconic watch. With the rumors and the speculation, only one thing can be said about the actor. Murphy is in the James Bond race.
Cillian Murphy Is Allegedly In The Race for James Bond!
Although Pierce Brosnan had some high regard for Murphy, the topic didn’t end there. A source allegedly told The Sun (via Yahoo!) that Barbara Broccoli, one of the producers of the James Bond franchise, is considering him for the role.
As per a report, the source stated that since Murphy is at the top of his game (with the recent release of Oppenheimer), it would be a wasted opportunity if they do not hire the actor,
Cillian is the toast of Hollywood right now and this would be the ultimate role. This is a way to elevate the Bond franchise with an actor who is at the very top of his game.
On the other hand, Murphy’s co-star Clay Bunker also believes that the actor would portray the role quite well(via Yahoo!).
He would fare beautifully. It’s funny because Cillian is the nicest human but he has that dark side and there’s a darkness to Bond. Cillian has that ability to tap into that.
As much as fans want to see Murphy don a suit and go on assassinating bad guys, saving the day, and drinking with regret in his eyes, all of these remain rumors as of now. Nothing can be confirmed or denied at this moment regarding the casting of Cillian Murphy as James Bond.
