Marvel’s third installment to the Thor franchise, Thor: Ragnarok was an immediate success. Given the Asgardian God’s valor and strength, MCU fans marked him as one of the leading heroes of the Multiverse. However, along with Thor, his brother and God of Mischief, Loki also gained the spotlight. Loki’s estranged relationship with his father Odin was almost brought to a close in a Ragnarok. Sadly, a rare scene that could have beautifully evolved the father-son arc, was deleted from the theatrical cut of the 2017 movie.
The scene displayed a heartwarming encounter of the Odinsons, and the King of Asgard, Odin. Interestingly, Odin was seen foraging in a garbage dump after Loki cast a spell that erased Odin’s memory and exiled him to Earth-616. Following the encounter, a heartfelt moment between Loki and Odin provides a proper ending to the father-son duo. Yet, most fans could not witness the scene as it never made it to the original cut.

Loki gets his closure in a parallel universe
While Marvel bosses decided to let Loki’s relationship with his father hang, the director Taika Waititi made sure Odin got a final moment with the Prince of Asgard. Thor’s home was treading towards Ragnarok, the destruction of Asgard under the power of the evil Goddess of Death, Hela. Therefore, after Doctor Strange helped Thor mystically find Loki and Odin, using Thor’s hair, the Odinsons set out to take their dazed father home, per a YouTube snippet by Zylice Liddell.
The pitiful state of the King got the sons concerned. Thor played by Chris Hemsworth, tried to remind Odin that he was his son. Simultaneously, the father acknowledged that he remembered every bit of it and turned towards Tom Hiddleston’s Loki. Odin acknowledged that Loki was his other son. He said,
“The storms within you, you inherited from me. You are my son. Both my sons, I’m sorry I failed you.”
This emotional moment of the superheroes was deleted from the original cut of Ragnarok which seems unjustified. This scene had the potential to close Loki’s relationship with his father on good terms. However, this scene was clearly missing. Moments later, Odin was killed by Hela after a brief chat with Odin. Despite his sons taking on their superhero forms, Hela shred Mjölnir to pieces. To save themselves from her wrath, Loki transports Thor and him back to Asgard.
Ragnarok or Love and Thunder?
While Waititi’s Ragnarok was a smash hit, grossing $865 million at the box office worldwide, the sequel couldn’t keep up with the standards. The former was acclaimed as one of MCU’s best working movies, which encouraged the sequel. The former presented a rather comical and engaging plotline whereas Love and Thunder featured quick laughs and silly jokes, per CBR.
Regardless, the movie did quite well at the box office, collecting $760 million globally, per Variety. Yet, MCU fans were disappointed by the film’s uninteresting visuals and the average humor.
