As per Giant Freekin Robot, there is a possibility that Cavill could play Captain Britain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside Anthony Mackie in Captain America: Brave New World. The studio seems interested, and the Man of Steel star himself is keen on the role.

Interestingly, the role of Captain Britain came just in the spotlight, but Thor: Ragnarok’s writer expressed interest in the character long before.

Christopher Yost first considered the idea of a Captain Britain movie. He was interested in it before the recent fan demand for Henry Cavill’s involvement in the MCU.

A Marvel Writers Program alumnus worked as a screenwriter for Marvel Studios’ Marvel Cinematic Universe on Thor: The Dark World (2013) and Thor: Ragnarok (2017). But when he joined the writers’ program, he had the opportunity to choose from a variety of lesser-known characters to adapt for his work.

He was particularly interested in the Thunderbolts, Power Pack, and Captain Britain. Shortly after Yost arrived, the entire Writers Program was brought into the production of the fourth MCU movie, Thor. But now it seems like the idea of giving life to Captain Britain in MCU, which was shut off long ago, is back on track.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter,  Henry Cavill was asked which Marvel character he’d want to play in the future. The DC star asserted that he would never “going to say a Marvel character that is already being played by someone else […].” It is “because everyone’s doing such an amazing job.”

But he seemed interested in playing Captain Britain and emphasized that it “would be loads of fun to do a cool, modernized version of that.” As he said:

“However, I have the internet and I have seen the various rumors about Captain Britain and that would be loads of fun to do a cool, modernized version of that — like the way they modernized Captain America. There’s something fun about that, and I do love being British.”

With this, both Cavill’s fans and the MCU are thrilled about the idea of the former Superman taking on the role of Captain Britain.
